“We have a Nigerian centerback coming in, potentially a Portuguese midfielder on trial and a Spanish midfielder on trial,” Marsch said. “They are not here — but they are coming.”

by DAVE MARTINEZ

HANOVER, N.J. – With less than two weeks remaining in the summer transfer window and nary a signing to their name, the New York Red Bulls are finally ready to bring on some potential reinforcements.

Speaking to reporters after Wednesday’s training, Red Bulls boss Jesse Marsch revealed a trio of trialists are set to arrive shortly.

“We’ve got some trialists and Ali is working tirelessly to solidify some moves,” Marsch said. “We are hoping to make some additions soon. It’s just ironing out the details.”

The trialists have not arrived in camp yet, and Marsch did not specify when they would join the senior team. He also did not identify the incoming players by name.

However, he did reveal some details about the trialists, offering a glimpse into what the Red Bulls may be looking for in these possible late season acquisitions.

“We have a Nigerian centerback coming in, potentially a Portuguese midfielder on trial and a Spanish midfielder on trial,” Marsch said. “They are not here — but they are coming.”

In the article he mentions other moves and they are finalizing the details.  No mentions of positions or anything but have to assume they are forward types.

As for the trialists, guessing they are younger in age.  And we could use a younger centerback because Schmoll and Carroll aren't good enough with Red Bull 2.  Baah is the only one with any youth.

Most importantly in all this... wouldn't this be our first Nigerian?

Yes! (Because we don't count RBNY II.)

It's been three years since our last new nation...

SWP was our last summer trialist. Worked wonders.

BWP was also a trialist at one time.  That worked out pretty well.

I mean Schmoll and Carroll haven't been outstanding, but we've let in 11 goals in 17 games, the best numbers in the USL.  And Meara really hasn't had to do a ton. I'd be comfortable with Carroll getting late game minutes with the first team.

That being said, with Baah out, I like the idea of another younger CB too.

If you scan YouTube looking for Bradley Wright-Phillips, youll find numerous goal compilations, a few interviews and, eventually, an excerpt from the grime mixtape series Lord of the Mics.

So these will work, then their older brothers will come in and suck. History repeats itself and all.

Sam, Perrinelle, Grella, Lawrence all came on as trialists too.

I'm holding my judgement on these trialists until I see their FIFA ratings.
