#1353897 The Fire Chris Armas Thread

Yes. Cause we needed an outside back and another attacking piece to guarantee an MLS cup win and we got neither in that transfer window....

Nothing would guarantee us that.   6 off the charts DP's wouldn't guarantee us that.

Colorado has also beaten Seattle and the Galaxy, since beating us.

Amazing what a new, good coach can do

#1353535 Petke was fired by RSL

... He won the supporters shield with a loaded squad and has struggled since that trophy.

He hardly struggled.   Other than the screw up, he was very well liked at RSL (and at the Monarchs for them before that) and arguably has over-achieved given the lack of talent he took over there.

I don't see the point in getting rid of anyone, until we have a replacement.   Unless someone is a locker room cancer, we have what, three open roster spots already?

Still love Petke. Don't care what he supposedly said, basically hear it every soccer game ever anyway. Just wasn't worth it over a meaningless game.

Also still love him, and know he's no homophobe or anything similar, but when someone repeatedly loses their friggen mind while on the job, they can't  expect to keep that type of employment.   I seriously doubt he finds a way back into MLS coaching after this.   He just doesn't have that great a track record for a team to bother bringing on that amount of PR baggage.   We don't have any Al Davis type owners in this league willing to build their organization with damaged goods.

Who do you suggest?

The most senior, quality guy would be Royer, but he just doesn't seem to have the personality for it.   He gets angry and yells occasionally, but its like he's reluctant to do it.

Sean Davis took a big step backwards this year.  Had he gone the other direction, and stepped up with Tyler leaving, he had potential to be a long-term captain here.

I like defenders as captains, but Long's seemingly imminent departure negates that.

Man I could've sworn he was helping Henry play better when they were paired as 2 forwards in the 2nd half of 2013.

Henry didn't really play as a forward.. he was withdrawn left, more playmaker than finisher

The fact is, Philly.... PHILLY..... is a whole lot closer to getting a Cup than we are, and someone needs to be held accountable.

#1352918 MLS playoff schedule released

Posted by RedBullScouse on 29 August 2019 - 07:54 AM

First round: Weekend of Oct. 19-20
Conference semis: Wednesday/Thursday Oct. 23-24
Conference finals: Tuesday/Wednesday, Oct. 29-30
10-day break
MLS Cup: Sunday, Nov. 10

Midweek game mania! I guess it's because the league is scared about the situations in Atlanta and Seattle.

Also, per Dylan Butler on Twitter, Boy City are in big trouble if the Yankees make the ALCS or farther. If they don't secure the first round bye and Yankees make ALCS, they will have to host their first round game somewhere else. If Yankees make the World Series, they will have to move their semifinal and conference final games somewhere else as well, if they make it that far. Maybe a few weeknight playoff soccer games in Hartford this October?

I'm a big fan of getting it done before December.   If you can't fill a stadium midweek for a conference final (and we can't, but most teams can) that's a bigger issue.

Fuck Boy City.

This is right.

The only way we're qualifying for CCL 2020 is by winning MLS Cup.

So, good luck to everyone else in CCL.

So we're in.  Awesome.

Armas has been playing  3 dimensional chess, rope a doping the league, keeping all his secret tactics hidden away until the moment comes to strike.   Our playoff opponents won't know what hit them.

#1352726 Why can't we just buy a team like LAFC & Atlanta?!

Posted by RedBullScouse on 26 August 2019 - 08:38 AM

Seriously, this money ball, home grown, train em young philosophy is crap. It doesn't matter if we don't win MLS championships. What's worse is that any player that excels, gets sold or sent to the Red Bull mothership. How can this organization expect us fans to back up what is essentially a farm team!?

How many times has that actually happened?  And what team in MLS has been able to hold on to a guy like Adams?

unpopular opinion -   as impressive as Murillo was 1v1 last night, he still finished all those attacking runs through the defenders with a wasted pass or non-shot.   If he gets even 1  assist out of it, all would be forgiven, but he so rarely does.   Sure, he drew a debatable PK, but he's gotta be able to take on defenders AND have an awareness of the other players on the field.

For better or worst, Id be stunned if Lade were on the team next year. I appreciate his longevity and service, but my money is either on him retiring or playing at a lower level.

I'm going with rb2 asst coach

I'm sorry but that would be fucking ridiculous.

BWP scores 20 goals a season for years, finally gets a bad injury this season and Armas now rates a scrub from RBII over him and fans are calling for him to retire as they think he is "washed up".

he had stopped scoring goals and impacting the game well before the injury, going well back into last year. I'm not saying he's done, but that its not unreasonable to think he may be.
