No thread yet?
USA won all 3 in Group F.
https://en.m.wikiped...rld_Cup_Group_F
Now the real work begins. Win or go home.
Next up, Group B runner-up Spain on Monday June 24.
https://en.m.wikiped...rld_Cup_Group_B

Some dramatic games: Scotland up 3-0 in the 72nd, conceded 3 goals, including a retaken penalty, and gets eliminated.
Chile, needing a 3-goal win to advance, hit the crossbar on a PK and are eliminated.
Cameroon beat Denmark 2-1 in 95th minute

We are good enough to beat the best teams, and bad enough to lose to the worst teams.

In 1998, the USMNT lost to Germany at Parc des Prince.
I estimated that our traveling support was 1,500.
The USWNT just beat Chile in the same venue.
I have heard estimates that our support was 30,000.

Some ESCers are going for the knockout games.
Enjoy! Victoire!

We are good enough to beat the best teams, and bad enough to lose to the worst teams.

US women squeeze by Spain 2-1, with both US goals coming on PKs. Spains goal came on a Metro-worthy defensive gaffe.

We are good enough to beat the best teams, and bad enough to lose to the worst teams.

If we are to beat France, Rampinoe needs to be benched. Shes lost her pace and isnt proving much in open play.

Opposing defenses are smothering Crystal Dunn as soon as the ball is passed to her, forcing her to sit back. Its becaise they are totally comfortable putting the fullback on Rampinoe 1:1.

Id also move Julie Johnson/Hate the Eagles, back to CB for Becky Sauerbrun.

The New York Red Bulls previously kicked around Major League Soccer as the MetroStars with limited success. But after transforming under a new banner in 2005, the Red Bulls have become a force to be reckoned with in the Eastern Conference. The club has made leaps of progress since its previous incarnation and now has its focus on bringing the league title to New York. Could be above 90 degrees in Paris at game time.

Rapinoe scores both again as USA win 2-1.
Next, England in the semis.

We are good enough to beat the best teams, and bad enough to lose to the worst teams.

I think you can get a mulligan on this.

You are getting your wish against England.
Starting On The Bench is how Fox called it.
Available as a super-sub?

Press, replacing Rapinoe, scores opener in 9th.
White equalizers in 19th.
Alex Morgan restores US lead in 31st.

We are good enough to beat the best teams, and bad enough to lose to the worst teams.

Heard Rampinoe is nursing an injury. Given that Press is a better defender playing on England's more dangerous attacking side, it's a pretty pragmatic move.

I heard England is kind of making us out to be bullies as the favorites. Which is fine. But if we lose this game -- which is well within the realm of possibility -- we do deserve to get dunked on for a couple of weeks given the bush league shit we pulled against Thailand.

Honestly, I didn't expect us to get past France.

Reported as a hamstring.
If so, cannot see her coming on as a sub.
Meanwhile, White goal disallowed offside by VAR.
Now, VAR gives ENG a PK. Saved!
Red Card in 87th, England down to 10.
7 minutes injury time.
And that is it! USA 2-1 over England!

Rob Stone says that was the 1st non-shootout PK save ever for the USA. ENG missed 3 PKs in this WC.

We are good enough to beat the best teams, and bad enough to lose to the worst teams.

Apparently Ellis wanted Rapinoe available to take a PK if necessary but would not use her as a sub otherwise.
