Disorganized play with no rythm from both sides, crappy stadium with bad angles, unconscious comparisons being made by everyone to quality of play in World Cup, both teams switch extroverted outspoken coaches for quiet introverts. . . Hasn't been a great game to watch so far.
I will miss Marsch and wish him well. I think he did a fine job here. He took the job in a tough position and had to win the fans over after the Petke firing and he did. He made some tough calls with shipping out popular players, but I genuinely believe that every move he made was designed to make the club better and not due to some petty personal BS--something very common in sports but largely absent during his tenure. Hope Armas is the one to lead us to the promised land. Hats off to Marsch--an articulate, intelligent, and passionate coach.
Can't believe BWP had to be a Garber pick. Ridiculous that Tata passed on him. I believe the game is meaningless and would rather our players not play, EXCEPT it's important for contract bonuses and crap like that. BWP's been great, he deserves the $$$
Sort of. Tony Meola left for a bit and came back, same with Zach Thornton.
Upon looking into it Petke and Meola both had gaps of 7 years between league appearances for Metro. Thornton (who I totally forgot about) had an amazing 11 years in between stints, but never played a league game after returning--he only played 1 USOC game in 2008. Meara's is almost certainly the longest gap in between league games for a player consistently under contract with NY during that time (I know he went on loan to NYCFC for a year, but he was still technically under contract with us).
