Good chance Metro will not be in this years edition, unless MLS uses our April and May 2021 matches as qualifying. Only 8 MLS teams will be invited.

Don't particularly care this year since I just don't see this roster winning anything anyway.

Doom and gloom is strong today.

New importance placed on the beginning of the season?

Cool. Wacky, but that will be fun to have the early games mean something a bit extra. For what its worth, Sean Davis in the recent Seeing Red podcast did mention his (their?) goal of winning MLS Cup and Open Cup. Maybe Struber is putting more priority on the Open Cup than prior administrations?

Wow is this an absolute cluster. USSF stepping on its crank yet again. (Im probably being harsh in this instance, but its always a useful default point where Soccer House is concerned.)

What they dont mention is that another determination will be made in 3 weeks whether or not to hold the Round of 16 games. At which point they scrap the whole thing

At any rate, the second tier teams have been announced -

El Paso Locomotive
Louisville City FC
Phoenix Rising
Tampa Bay Rowdies
Greenville Triumph
Detroit City FC or LA Force
Last two open division teams to be determined via a set of blind draws April 7

So dumb. The US Open Cup cannot be a 16 team tournament.

You are correct here - maybe rename US Closed Cup?

Pretty dumb, but I'm not too upset.  The two options were probably this or just cancelling it again.

I bet some team gets in having only played 1 game given that it's after 3 weeks not just once everyone has played 3 games.

If you scan YouTube looking for Bradley Wright-Phillips, youll find numerous goal compilations, a few interviews and, eventually, an excerpt from the grime mixtape series Lord of the Mics.

That team would at most have 3 points.
Do you believe only 7 US-based MLS teams would have 4 points after 3 matches?

We are good enough to beat the best teams, and bad enough to lose to the worst teams.

It's based on PPG, not points.

Well then, that is stupid.

We are good enough to beat the best teams, and bad enough to lose to the worst teams.
