Murillo was pissed when Ivan was called to be the last sub.

#1344083 Top level DPs

You could probably make the argument that Reyna was a top tier DP as well. His European resume was pretty much as successful as Cahill's, aside from not being a club legend at a smaller side. Obviously, he was past it when he got here, but the guy captained Wolfsburg and was a stud at Rangers, as well as captaining the national team.

#1343007 Kaku benched, his feelings hurt

I actually think that Kaku puts in a hell of a lot of defensive work for a #10. I also have no problem with benching him for acting like an idiot on Twitter.

I can't help but think that putting Rza on for Valot keeps the aggregate at 2-2. Of course, then they'd just choke on penalties...

I think that you have to start him. You don't want to bring him on and then have to take him off, effectively burning two subs.

You should have received an email about CCL redemptions. Get in contact with your rep ASAP.

I did. The question was whether the tickets were showing up in our accounts yet, which they weren't as of yesterday.

Edit: Mine seem to have appeared at some point in the last 24 hours.

#1340149 Mathias Jorgensen incoming

The problem is that you can't get a proven striker to come here to back up BWP.

Guldbrandsen went back to Salzburg and played great. He was certainly good enough for MLS, but didn't want to stick around to be BWP's backup.

I've wanted an 'Alan Gordon' backup for awhile, but that doesn't seem to be in the cards. If you don't go that route, you have to go for young prospects who might be able to take over for BWP down the road. I know nothing about this guy, but it seems like he has a lot of upside.

#1339414 Club America wants Kaku

Posted by odsum25 on 21 January 2019 - 11:00 PM

arguably the best player in MLS, Josepf Martinez, says he is staying with ATL for as long as they want him too. He without a doubt must have interest from foreign clubs. So yea, not everyone is looking to bolt for greener grass.

Martinez also already had his shot at Europe and didn't really make an impact at Torino. He took a step back by going to Atlanta. He could still go back to Europe, of course, but his situation is very different than that of Kaku.

The 4231 formation isn't the problem. The lack of a gamebreaking, dynamic winger is the problem.

Why is Kaku's cap hit going to double?

He turns 24 in January, so he'll no longer be a Young DP.

Edit: Actually, I guess that he won't, based on this language. He'll still be 23 for a portion of the "league year".

"Young Designated Player
A Designated Player who is 23 years old (or younger than the age of 23) during the League Year (the age of the player is determined by year - not date - of birth) will carry the following Young Designated Player Salary Budget Charge:

Ages 20 and younger: $150,000
Ages 21-23: $200,000"

I like this move, but let's not compare the guy to a former MLS Defender of the Year, unless you're strictly talking style-wise.

Let's not get crazy over the signing of this prospect. He was behind Redding on Orlando depth chart last year, wasn't full time starter this year on the worse defensive team in MLS. The guy as of now is a scrub with some potential who is yet to prove he is better than someone like Ndam.

Umm...he and Redding were never on the same team. And I'd say that by looking like the one Orlando defender who didn't suck he has proved more than Ndam did.

I don't think he's going to win defender of the year, but a cheap CB with MLS experience, who can also play LB is a godsend for this team. (And one who doesn't take up an international slot, to boot.)

What airline / how bad was the price if you don't mind me asking? I've been looking at flights and the prices are ridiculous so I'm driving at the moment. It being Thanksgiving weekend sucks for finding a deal.

Mine was $100 to fly to Savannah (American) on Saturday and a $150 return flight from Atlanta (Delta) on Monday.

#1336051 Metro - Columbus Playoff Thread

Posted by odsum25 on 13 November 2018 - 09:07 AM

Team overall played very well. I think Armas is less stubborn than Marsch. The RB system has largely been play straight through the middle, Jesse at one point even gave a presentation where he showed how RB teams created goals attacking straight down the middle, but Armas recognized that we needed to attack down the flanks to win.
Whole team was good. People will say BWP was invisible but he still did the little things to keep the D honest and create chances. Just by capturing the D's attention he played a big role.
Midfield won the game. I think that was Adam's best game ever. Muyl was also huge, arguably his best game (even if you don't count the goal credited to him). Davis and Royer also had great games. Kaku seemed to get less touches but he didn't do anything wrong, might just be that CBus was paying more attention to him since our offense usually flows through him. Kemar also looked sharp. Robles wasn't asked to do much, but had 1 excellent save iirc. Not much to complain about. Hope it carries over to Atlanta.

I thought that BWP was great. He held the ball well, distributed, showed great positional awareness, and his usual clever runs dragged dedenders out of position, even though he didn't get any chances at goal. He was involved in Royer's first goal through good hold up play, a quick turn, and pass to Muyl. Royer's second would not have happened if BWP hadn't peeled off to the left, opening up space for Royer to dribble centrally and keeping Sauro from closing down the dribbler for just a split second longer than he would have otherwise.

I'd rather him get chances to score, of course, but it was clear that Columbus was totally keyed in on BWP and Kaku, conceding the wings in the process. Fortunately, the outside backs and wingers took advantage.
