I definitely think Long will be sold and I could see Parker sold as well. Aren't they each making $800k? I think losing them makes us a much worse team, but I see RB trying to get money while they can and also reallocating half that center back money ($800k) towards the salary for a young player from Brazil, SA, or young guy that slipped to 3rd division in Europe.

Parker confirmed he's being paid with targeted allocation money, and Long's $800k is definitely bein paid with some sort of allocation money as well since he's not a DP. So luckily they don't cost Red Bull a cent and there's no incentive to push them out. If they want to free up cap space, I think its more like Rzatkowski (another TAM contract) goes before either CB.

The only way I think either goes is if we get a bonkers offer for either, or if Long really presses the club to let him go try his hand in Europe before he ages out.

When? What is RB waiting for?
RBS is one year older than RBNY.
RBL is three years younger.

...

When Kaku was signed in 2018 I think he was a top 10 MLS transfer fee, even smaller market teams like KC are spending close to $10 million on Pulido, and Vancouver and Minnesota dropping $4-5 million on Cavalini and Reynoso.

Of course the RedBull model is throwing $1-2 million transfer fees on unfinished products and trying to develop them and turn a profit. In the MLS model you can only take so many risks and throw so many darts (Jorgensen) before you bury yourself.

..

The Kaku deal was done two years before the Pulido deal (12/17 vs 12/19), and was inarguably a respectable amount of money spent for that point in the league.   Numbers have exploded since.     If Kaku turned out to be a good investment, which he hasn't, maybe more money would have been invested here.

You can do real well in MLS with $2M xfer fee players (look at Philly), but you need to make a bunch of them, knowing they won't all work out.    The problem is, Hameltt's first/best choice was Matti Ice, and we all know how miserable a choice that was.  But I'm sure all the feedback Papa Red Bull got was "the kid is awesome, we made a great choice, just give him a little time."

RB seems to have taken the approach Liverpool did with Klopp... we'll give you more money when you show us you know how to spend it.  RB has shown they are not trigger happy and will give people time before firing them (though #12 might disagree, he was never their choice and got the job by default).   The Armas/HamSandwich tandem was given just 2 years.  It's hard to fairly judge people in those roles faster than that, especially when they won a Shield and had the Jesse pedigree.

They've now spent big money to bring in an entirely new regime with solid resumes, and while RB will never be a top net spender in the league (they aren't in Europe, either), there is every reason to believe they are serious about being successful here, and they've shown they know how to do it.   Money will be spent this winter.  Not as much as we want, and they will again hold back a bit to see how well money is being spent before giving more.   Not every signing will prove out, but reasonable MLS benchmark money will be spent.

I understand the TAM deal only vaguely. My understanding is its money with Garber's face on it, that can be used as legal currency to pay the contracts of certain players down from the team side and MLS pays the difference. I dont think that changes the rationale RB would have for moving them on - they would rather use that TAM on younger guys - develop them for Leipzig.

Based on the calendar the league put out, eliminated teams must inform the league a day after elimination on exercised options and bona-fide offers.

Players already know if they will be back in 2021. Fans may know today.

Gotcha I thought you meant they'd get rid of them for a pure salary dump. I'd prefer to just keep Parker who had a great year but you could hopefully get a decent prospect in the TAM range if they want to swap out.

I wonder how much MLS still meddles with the use of TAM. They clearly intended it to be used on somewhat recognizable, proven attacking players. Red Bull and Parker had to fight tooth and nail just to get MLS to let them use it on a centerback regardless of quality. Will Garber sign the check if they're worried they're just going to get the centerback version of Jorgensen?

Frankly i dont think there is a chance we get rid of both Long and Parker.  Will be one of them or none of them.  Hoping its none with a new contract or two.  Arguably the most valuable asset in this league is a top 10 domestic centerback.  No team has ever regretted ponying up for them. (i.e. Chad Marshall, Tim Parker, Ike Opera, Walker Zimmerman moves).

I just hope the pandemic doesnt cancel the proposed U22 "money fund" rule because thats an area where the Red Bull style of transfers would benefit greatly.

Eliminated 1st round playoff teams and non playoff teams have until 1pm on the 30th of November to inform on contract decisions. Any playoff team eliminated in the 2nd round and on has 1 day to inform the league.

Im sure the decisions have already been made, but Id bet RBNY will wait until the 30th to inform the league. Could ruin some Thanksgivings otherwise, although Corona has already done that.

I think it would be a huge mistake to get rid of both Parker and Long, before Parkers turn around in play I was ready for him to go but I dont have any problem with both of them sticking around and anchoring the roster refresh.

One of them should get the captains armband if they are both still here.

I wont be super upset if they decide to cash in on Parker, and they might need a better passing CB with Struber liking to play out of the back more often than previous managers.

Let's say Davis stays... anyone know of a precedent for taking the armband away from an incumbent captain, outside of a major star being signed (remember the Donovan/Beckham debacle)?

I think Long is as good as gone - his contract expires 12/2021 and I'm sure he thinks he has a shot at World Cup 2022 if he's in Europe. I could see RB keeping parker or cashing in on him.

Who do have facing an option, or an expiring contract?   No farewell tweets I've seen.

Long is (probably) the US starter at right CB now. Unless Chris Richards breaks through in a big way, Long will continue as the starter.

He'll be on the Qatar 2022 team regardless of where he plays, barring a massive performance decline.

While I hope Pendant isnt the starting LB next season, his contract is surely more than 1 season so there is probably no option decision to be made there.

Its all guesswork on the rest of the roster.
