Interesting read. Had no idea he was hated in France. It makes note of him just wanting to be loved (see goal vs. SJ). Not sure what to think of the implication that his emotions are calculated and just used for manipulation. I'd like to think it's not true, but it makes you wonder.

meh, this guy's just exaggerating the hate and making this something its not. Lyttleton is Irish? lulz

Henry's teammates always love him, the reports of him taking time with young players in training are endless. So long as he's not a locker room cancer and he plays hard, I'm happy.

Don't think he's not sincere, his obsession with being loved just makes him care more.

Double meh.. The writer is a Freud wannabe, a lot is built on innuendos, "allegeds" and "supposeds"..

The only facts we care about is that he has scored well at every club he has been at, has lifted multiple trophies, and is still producing.

Lyttleton acts as if this supposed "myth" was built on air rather than real accomplishments. As we've learned with so many sports stars before, from Dimaggio, Rose and Lombardi, to Jordan, Bryant and Woods, the only myth is that being a top athlete or coach somehow makes you perfect in everything else, as well.

The only people who believe that myth are the editors of the NY Times and Onionsack.

I think he's confusing Henry's general disdain with all press with a disdain for French press.

Two moments in Henry's career changed his relationship with the French public. The first came in November 2009, when Henry used his hand to set up William Gallas for a crucial goal in France's 2010 World Cup qualifying playoff victory over Republic of Ireland. As much as the goal itself, Henry's wild celebration was deemed offensive by French fans.

Wow. Almost makes me like French fans.

This love-hate relationship with the French press is mutual. Henry is alleged to have reacted furiously when a French journalist caught up with him after a game in New York and asked him about his new beard.

I seem to remember seeing this in a post-game video this past season, don't remember if it was a French reporter who brought it up though. Can anyone else confirm?

The year 2000 promised world domination for the nation of France. They were the best in the world with a young soccer team. It never happened. 10 years of frustration left the public of France with nothing but distaste for the French management, the FFA and the senior french players. The figure head being Thierry Henry.

Like most senior French players, Henry made his club success away from France. France wasn't good enough for success was the message. Henry's open "love" of English giants Arsenal does not goes unfelt by the French.

It's easy to see how the French public can feel "unloved" by the French players. Away from France they have great success and pride. At home for France, 10 years of empty promise.

Add to the mix that Thierry Henry has a personality that matches his skills. It's not from the same planet as you or I. To have the mindset to achieve what few have accomplished in soccer must surely cross that fine line between madness and genius. For the French (or any of his detractors) that can be perceived as arrogant/conniving/fake.

Bottom line, the French are still pissed at the last 10 years and Henry is as mad as his skills.

I'm sorry baby. It's just that sometimes I wanna score goals so badly, I lose all control and I get scared. Scared of not being loved. So I do bad things.

You look pretty today...

Sounds like logic you're familiar with? lolz

I'm not condoning unprofessional or unsportsman-like behavior, but saying that "Henry needs to be loved" isn't a bad thing by itself. Caring about the fans and feeding off their energy is a good thing if its used constructively.

Most people's strengths are derived from their insecurities.
