Is he the first player to a have a true European style soccer career arc? Academy, then sticking with the first team for more than a handful of games/seasons and retire with the team. That alone is an accomplishment beyond individual contribution to the team over the years.
What it means to be a product of our academy seems to be a bit murky to me.
He even went on loan to a lesser club when struggling for playing time!

I think that qualifies him then. Our first true "academy product"!
They should have special one off can of Red Bull made for his retirement with his face on it and the tagline "Get Lade with Red Bull".
And Olsen didn't turn DC into a bunch of whining, diving.. oh, nevermind

He made it as a pro for his hometown and never gave anything less than 200%
I have all the respect in the world for him as a player and a human I hope he stays with the organization in some way.
Thanks for everything Conor and best of luck in whatever you do next!!!

Let's not make Lade into a hero. Longevity does not equal quality. He was a borderline MLS 2.0 role player that - when he was on the field - teams regularly targeted as an obvious weak spot.
But don't worry, if you want to deify Lade, you've got a younger, slightly taller, slightly worse option in Buckmaster still on the roster today.
Nobody has to deify him, but just because he wasn't the best player doesn't mean he doesn't mean a lot. He was the first real academy player for this team. He was one of the few guys who transparently showed how much of a shit he gave about the club at a time when the coaching staff sent an intern for an open cup match and half the team were mercenaries. He did enough to earn the respect of Henry. He was solid depth for a handful of years and played his role in multiple Supporters' Shields. I think the people who have called him a team "legend" are overselling his impact but there's no doubt he's more than a footnote in our history.

I always liked Lade. He had heart and always played hard, especially for a little guy. I also like to see local guys make it.
Best of luck Connor!

There's a middle ground between diefication and being disrespectful. Your standards will be safe if you say thank you and good luck.
Best wishes to Lade.

"Get Lade" shots could become a thing in the club scene.

Either way that experience should be a useful tool in recruiting and mentoring talent for the academy. If he works for the team. He made a name for himself in local soccer without being a phenom.
I don't think it would be considered Euro style, coming out of college. Gotta be Miazga/Adams type, right from the academy who stays here to do that.

I wouldn't say that. There will be a Sean Davis / Dax McCarty type guy who comes up through the academy, isn't focused on getting a Duke/Georgetown education, but isn't on the level that he'd get international opportunities.
