Im not going to look much into this game. We had three guys playing their first game with the team along with two players returning from injury. The forced substitution of Collin was the turning point of the game. You can obviously see a different team with Sacha on. Glad he's coming back to his old self.

Metzger has played for the reserves, iirc. Started the last match.

I missed parts of second half, but why are people shitting on Duka?  First game for the team, and he looked speedy and seemed to have good control of the ball.

I am not shitting on him. I am not sure if he has the fitness to be on that midfield. He looked gassed by halftime. He did show some nice control and passing ability. I see grella 2.0 in duka

In a month or two as he is more comfortable with the team and his fitness improves he will be a solid addition

Didn't deserve a first team contract, it was pretty obvious from the start he'd never play. Maybe he refused a new II contract?

If you scan YouTube looking for Bradley Wright-Phillips, youll find numerous goal compilations, a few interviews and, eventually, an excerpt from the grime mixtape series Lord of the Mics.

i think he knew going in that he'd be cover at CDM. the pay is better with the 1st team rather than being with RB2, tbh. he's been in the 18 a lot, but if he gets PT, it's with RB2.

I disagree. Had a good season coming off ACL surgery with a high ceiling. Worth giving a shot especially with the open roster spots. He has improved with the USL team all season in part to training with the first team. The only players that I thought should have got a shot over him were Valot and Bezecourt. That said, Valot has regressed and there wasnt an INTL spot available at the time for Beze.

Give Metzger another year or two. On any other MLS team, he would likely be the primary central mid option off the bench.

Yeah this wasn't a bad performance all things considered. If we keep Etienne closer to goal, or the Kemar foul is called, or the Zizzo header goes in etc. then it's a different result.

The news out of this game is that Beze and Escobar are for real.

Nothing more to see. Moving right along.

I figured I might get some pushback on this, but I just don't see it. Maybe just I had unrealistic expectations about how we should have filled those free roster spots during the offseason.

Metzger just seems like someone who doesn't improve the bench and since he's not getting minutes, it doesn't seem like there's much upside for him personally either (besides pay). I guess if we weren't going to fill the spot otherwise, it's not a bad signing, but I'd like for us to try and do better than holding a roster spot for a guy who's just going to keep playing for RB2 anyway.

Here's a list of guys who can conceivably "start" for the squad:

Robles Meara

Collin Escobar Lade Taxi Long Murillo Perrinelle Zizzo

Sacha Felipe Royer Davis Adams Muyl Etienne

BWP Veron

And i'm not even counting Baah Grella since they're out for the season due to injury or Keita Duka Bezecourt. Promoting guys from the 2nd team is necessary, I just find it better than using the draft, and this is entirely the reason why we have a reserve team in the 1st place. tired of drafting random guys who might turn out ok. I'd rather develop guys in the system and know it backwards and forwards, so when they get promoted and get inserted into the lineup, they can function.

I thought Bez looked really good considering it was his first game, on the road with the bench guys around him.

Duka wasnt great, but if he can keep his head on straight and the staff can coach him up then he could have some value too.

Most excited about Escobar though. Looked really good anchoring the defense.

Holy cow. I forgot there even was a game. I guess I've been focused on the Open Cup because unlike the Supporters Shield that's a trophy it's possible for us to win this year.

Unfortunately for Metzger, the player in front of him is Felipe.

Or Davis, or Adams, or Sacha, or Basuljevic...

Metzger is a 6 yes? Davis, Sasha and Basiljevic are all 8s. Adams will be in Europe next year.
