We need to fire him and get a top level manager and a top level 3rd DP.

Our days of wasting money on top-level managers adding to their resumes are long over.
Our success record signing top level DPs is spotty.

We are good enough to beat the best teams, and bad enough to lose to the worst teams.

You could probably make the argument that Reyna was a top tier DP as well. His European resume was pretty much as successful as Cahill's, aside from not being a club legend at a smaller side. Obviously, he was past it when he got here, but the guy captained Wolfsburg and was a stud at Rangers, as well as captaining the national team.

Angel came here after scoring 14 goals in 85 games over three years.

Henry came here after scoring 4 goals in a 32-appearance season.

Marquez came here after a season where he was a rotation option at best, and hadn't cracked 25 league appearances in 4 years.

Cahill came here after the worst goalscoring season of his career.

Our top-level DP history is borderline non-existent.

You are claiming Henry wasn't a top level DP? Are you freaking high?

All your stats are true, but come on. Especially back then, those were all major signings. No doubt about it. Also agree with the mention about Reyna. Man he was awful, but there was a ton of hype for back in 2006/2007 or whatever it was.

90's MLS and this MLS are two totally different animals.  The DP-era really began with Beckham

Bradley Wright-Phillips "I prefer it at Red Bull Arena, but it was OK. I could imagine it being good for a baseball crowd.

But that's why 99 percent of star players choose to move down a level or two. It doesn't make them not stars or high level players it just makes them not starters at Barca or Chelsea level any more.

Though I'll say I always thought Rafa was overrated and just a product of the dominant system Barca played. He didn't have to do much defending.

Look at Cahill's comments about the a league when he came here. He knew it was time to take one step down, but not two.
