#1425311 Metro - Orlando Game Thread

Hard to believe season starts today. Cue cautious optimism!

Is nihilistic optimism a thing? Because my eyes tell me to be excited for the season, but my heart tells me I've been hurt too many times before and it all leaves me feeling a bit empty inside.

People were calling for Jesse to do something (formation, lineup, whatever).  Yea, maybe go to a 2 forward lineup with Abang along side BWP to help with aerial battles.  The press was't going to work against CBus and Marsch didn't adapt.

I think it wasn't so much switching everything. It was that we needed a plan B when the high press wasn't working. And I think that's still true. We can be really one note. We do it well, but when we don't it falls flat.

How quickly things change...

Hasn't scored a goal in three months.

Babies will do that to you...

#1286863 Sacha gets the call

Posted by EstonianAssassin on 07 September 2016 - 07:47 PM

[quote name="MTF" post="1286852" timestamp=" I think that Klinsmann's strategies don't often accommodate Sacha and his skills...plus he's now 30 and I see a youth movement beginning to take hold. Hopefully Sacha gets called in a few more times and can contribute in World Cup Qualifying, but I definitely see his national team window closing over the next year or so. [/quote]

I agree with you, but how old is Jones?

But Sacha has 2 things going for him,  1 he's smart and that rubs off on impressionable kids and 2, if he's pulisic's talisman, that's as good a reason as any to keep him around.

Plus he brings a totally different look, feel and tactics to our game. Even if he's just a super sub. It's  Something we've sorely missed.

#1282941 Lloyd Sam sold to DC

Posted by EstonianAssassin on 08 July 2016 - 01:11 PM

Allocation money is the most valuable trade-able asset MLS teams possess, aside from quality starting players. Draft picks are worthless. Allocation money is like a magic ticket to bend the salary cap.

I will miss Sam. He was a legend for us. I will wait to see what other moves we make this summer before I draw final conclusions.

It just means the bar is so much higher for whatever comes next.

#1282442 Oscar Cardozo rumor

Benjamin Cardozo has a better chance of seeing the field for us...

But with all those Friday night games, that's a bad investment.

#1281601 Metro - Seattle Game Thread

Posted by EstonianAssassin on 19 June 2016 - 10:22 PM

It was very shaky defensively, Seattle basically counter attacked at will until we switched to five in the back after the second goal. They out-shot us and had a lot of open looks in the box that they fortunately couldn't put on target.

I agree. First half looked like anyone's game. We were shaky and did a ton of last min defending.

Pace seemed off. At one point in the second, someone laid a sweet ball into space down the left. Sam had only one guy to beat and looked like he turned it down a few notches. Was easily beat. Sam of a year and a half ago would have been all over it.

Lade had another steady night.

#1279104 Aurélien Collin incoming

Posted by EstonianAssassin on 29 April 2016 - 04:00 PM

I'm so torn. I can't stand the guy, but he definitely makes the team better...

Oh well, I guess after rooting for Marquez, I can trick my brain into supporting anyone.

No no no no.

I never rooted FOR Marquez. I just never specifically rooted against him. Never liked Collin. I have found memories of Henry schooling him. But fuck man, you do what you got to. It's not like we sold our collective soul to the devil (I hope).

Anyone know what happened to SWP? Couldn't tell from where I was, and he didn't look in pain, just that he knew he was fucked.

Ben Olsen is a twat. I want to score 3 goals before half time is even over. Fuck DC.

I want Zubar to score 2 of them.

Ugly soccer. For a team priding itself on energy we were blah.

But, I'd rather get our loss out of the way now. We're streaky and don't want this starting out with breaks on to happen during the playoffs.

Jermaine Jones. God I hate that fucker.

Seriously. Fuck that guy. Hate to say someone deserves to get fucked up.
Is he healthy yet? Because fuck that guy.

#1263795 Dax Replaces Lampard for ASG

Posted by EstonianAssassin on 28 July 2015 - 07:00 PM

Dax did a great interview on Counter attack on Sirius this afternoon.

Of the many things he talked about was how Marsch took him aside after his shitty run of games, specifically the philly game (where he admitted to being particularly awful)  and got him to refocus and simplify. Pretty cool.

Also of note was Sean Davis ("I'll be out of a job soon") and SWP ("I didn't know what to make of him because he was on the bench at QPR for a year...)

#1263577 Twellman: Reinforcements are coming

Posted by EstonianAssassin on 26 July 2015 - 08:25 PM

Twellman just now on the halftime show on ESPN: "I Think there is one more signing for the Red Bulls"

fwiw, take it as you wish.

What's Ian Wright up to?
