You gotta be dumb as shit to not know how to fix a bike. What the fuck are these people going to do when they get a car or house? As for what's considered "Entry Level", don't worry about it. Just get a road bike with a frame that fits you well and that you like the look of, and start riding. When shit breaks - and it will if you ride it enough - Look up how to fix it online, and then go buy the tools and upgrade the parts if you feel like it. You will make mistakes, and you will wind up pushing the damn thing home a few times, but eventually you'll have all the tools you need and know how to fix anything.

Funniest post since Zero Cool said he was looking for a job! Especialized...I want to get an E sticker for my MTB now to put in front of specialized. You were right, cheapest specialized was 500+. Schwinn came out with a pseudo fixie (brakes on this thing and 26lb ) for 300 that I am eyeballing for an around towner...just want to go even cheaper IMO.
you might want to check 'bikes direct' or 'performance bikes'.

What I find odd about the whole fixie culture is that they never include racks or baskets. This is what it has come to...

I have a massive messenger bag that I can carry a change of clothes and two days worth of groceries (including a gallon of milk), but to be a true Urban bicycle, you have to have some method for hauling stuff.

You do know that Urban Outfitters is a clothing store right? Now they have bikes to go with the clothes.

I saw some 6 foot 2 (?) guy riding up a very small hill on Ballona Creek today (the path was just dipping under a bridge).
He was having the devil of a time.
Fucking hilarious!

So have any of you seen the new "Short Flat Bar" trend?

Yeah, that's part of the fixed-gear-douchetacular trend. I can see the appeal of track bikes but the short bar thing is really stupid. Apparently it started with messengers (just like the fixed gears) and went from there.
