No, no MLS team has done this before.

No, no MLS team has done this before.

No MLS team has built a statue for an opposing team's owner before?

I'd say we should build a statue of Bob Kraft, but if he starts paying attention to MLS, next thing you know Garber's at his house for dinner and then suddenly the Revs can't lose a game...

Don't blame me, I voted for Kodos.

Why not? 18 goals and 98 appearances must be records.
Right??

Beckham, with his 18 goals, did more for MLS than Josef Martinez or almiron. Without Beckham we probably wouldn't even see guys like almiron and Josef come to MLS. If anyone outside our team is reserving of a statue, it's probably him.

Puhlease, LA is all about fame over substance (not saying he was bad). It's so teenage girls can have their picture taken in front of it...it makes us look like a Mickey Mouse league TBH

Exactly.    As cringeworthy as it was to see grown ass men in NJ wearing his LAG jersey,  for MLS 1.0, he was massive.    The league would not be where it is, maybe never would be, without his impact.    And that 4-3 game in GS was hellu fun.

Could have built a statue for JPA after that.

Attendance has always been the main problem for US pro soccer. MLS before Beckham came here (2007) was seriously attendance-challenged. Beckham changed things. The league has expanded, has more  stadiums and more sources of income.

Great, he was important to MLS. Build him a statue at MLS HQ. To build a statue of him before guys like Donovan, Keane or hell Bruce Arena is embarrassing.

Will he be the first player to get a statue outside the stadium of a former team based on business metrics instead of sporting merit?

Who should get the Metro/Red Bull business metrics statue?  I would say Henry but he is more deserving of a statute based on his play in MLS than Beckham.  Henry was the best player in the league when he was here, Beckham was not even the best player on his team.
