In that situation, do you think personnel would be more important than tactics? Seems like there's only so much you can do tactically against a team dead set on sitting in the box where no amount of ball movement is going to draw them out. Just need the guys on the field to actually be able to take the few chances that you get. Isn't that why the main criticism of Marsch coming out of CCL was keeping Kaku on the bench?

I think keeping Kaku on the bench while pumping hopeful crosses and throw ins into the 18 was a tactical decision.

Also, most of our best chances while BWP has been on this team have come from getting down to the end line and whipping a ball across the 6.

In almost all of our historic losses against bunkering teams weve either tried to force it down the middle or weve resorted to the long ball way too early in the match/series.

Weve also had a less than stellar defense, but IMO thats no longer a problem.

BWP aside... Outside of Henry and I guess Djorkaeff, we've been waiting for that type of player since Guevara

They are hard to come by... So I give them some slack and it seems they hope Kaku will be that.. He isn't yet... Imo they should try again...

Maybe they're wait for leagues to end in Europe and get a star that's contract is up.. IE Iniesta or Ribery... And at this point i would welcome either.. Especially after NYRb not being able to get a clutch goal in the Chivas 0-0 as well as the second goal vs Chicago...

A world class guy is needed.. Even if he's aging.. I have always said a young underrated guy is my preference but they have to make a move this season even if it means getting an old guy

A DP would be nice, but I'll take the skills and production of a 2015 Lloyd Sam in a pinch.

Supposedly Blood Money Manchester wants iniesta.

RED. BULL. OUT.

I'm split because I like having a couple slots on the team open for young guys/homegrowns to fight for (preferably one attacking and one defensive minded spot) but at this point,  wouldn't mind a stopgap signing that can do the job so we can better weather the storm when Royer gets cold.  Kaku should help with that in time as well, but I don't want to waste this group.  We have some many underpaid starters that allow us to have better depth and who knows if it will ever be this good.

I'm with you.. But I feel like I am seeing a trend that is a sign come playoffs that this roster won't be able to muster a clutch win.

So I would like them roll the dice on an older guy that can be clutch.. It's worked in the past not always but it has worked, for other teams.

They won't get someone who doesn't fit the system. I don't expect any older guys.
This post is dedicated to all the slow defenders of the world. Godspeed! my brothers

it's not a tactics thing for me, it's personnel. the system can only create so many chances, it's then when the player's ability to finish and how many players who can finish are on the field in knockout round situations.

Yes.

+ how many players who are on the field who have ideas about how to break down entrenched teams.

any of those players who have ideas to combat that wouldn't be in this league.

I have to agree with you.

But that's the should be the goal of the FO to discover a young talent that is willing to come to the MLS that can fit into the high press system, yet can also break down a bunkered team.

Hence the DP should be used as a tool for precisely that.. To hit above the leagues weight and try to woo someone to MLS with a splash of cash
