SALARY BUDGET: salary budget and allocation rules are now locked in under the CBA.
2014 = $3.10 million

MINIMUM SALARIES for senior roster players:
2014 = $48,500

RESERVE DIVISION: minimum salaries for players beyond the first 24 per club will be as follows, with additional bonuses for players who appear in a first-team game:
2014 = $36,500

DESIGNATED PLAYERS
International designated players age 20 or younger will be charged $150,000 against the team's salary cap.
Players aged 21 to 23 will count $200,000 against the salary cap.
All other designated players $335,000

Player Acquisition 101

USL - G2 (aka Galaxy II)

The Galaxy will be able to loan first-team players to the USL side as often as they wish.

Players on USL contracts and those from the Academy can train and play with Galaxy II team, but are not eligible to play in MLS unless they sign a MLS deal.

“You can loan players [to Galaxy II] all the time and bring them back, so it's a lot of freedom,” Arena said.

“There are restrictions on those players that are USL players, we can discover them and sign them [to MLS contracts].”

Re-Entry Draft 1 is tonight (I think noon PT)

Don't expect the G's to pick a player in Round 1, tough they might be invloved with trades.

Someone please help me with the point of homegrown player status if  . . .     playing as a starter gets you out of that status.  I get it with 'generation addidas' status, it is there for college players that command money but aren't quite ready for the big-time.  But if a player like Zardes is now a full cap hit, where is the reward in building an academy?  If we keep signing good young local talent we will just have to dump them once they are quality players.  If that is true, that rule needs some serious re-work.

And, if there isn't a rule change increasing DP's to 4 per team this summer I will be pissed . . .  I am so sick of hearing the NASL excuse; that shit is played out.

I'm not certain myself however it seems, their salary simply starts to count against the cap,

Clubs may sign up to two Homegrown Players contracts above the minimum salary and similar to Generation adidas player contract amounts.

Zardes and McBean in 2013, Villarreal and Sorto had minimum contracts.

NOTE:The terms Homegrown and Generation adidas are used to describe mechanisms by which players are acquired. They are not roster designations. All players’ roster slots are determined by their compensation and/or age as outlined above.

so they are simply just salary budget or off budget players...

(F)HOMEGROWN PLAYER SIGNINGS
A club may sign a player to his first professional contract without subjecting him to the MLS SuperDraft if the player has trained for at least one year in the club’s youth development program and has met the League’s Homegrown Player criteria. Players joining MLS through this mechanism are known as Homegrown Players.

There is no limit to the number of Homegrown Players a club may sign in a given year.

However you can as pointed out above just sign 2 to a higher than league minimum contract at all times, before they become "normal" senior roster players

What I remember is than all fees for HG players belong to the individual team should he transfer outside of MLS, with regulars it's 33 or 66% with the rest going to the league and I was certain at one point in time they were all off budget players and could not "graduate".

In theory it would be possible to have a caphit of zero with all players being HG or have 3 DPS and a couple of max budget players with using all of the salary cap with all other being HG.

Also more on it, from a diffrent view here

Doesn't answer your question, just creates more questions...

Well Sean was officially selected by DCU.  Thanks for the 2 MLS Cups and helping the team get us to a third one.

Who is going to play RMid now?  Does AJ have a back-up they can rely on if he gets injured, or has to slide into the middle?

If I had to guess . . .   they are slotting Zardes for that position (RM).  Not saying I think it is the right fit for him . . .    but I think he will be positioned there (at least until he misses his first 300 shots of 2014)

:)

Don't get me wrong, I think Zardes has a ton of talent . . .   but his lack of composure in front of goal shows he isn't ready.  At best he should be a regular 60th minute sub.  But, the training wheels that the MLS puts on us forces teams to constantly have one or two guys on the field that have no business being a starter.

G's pick nobody in Re Entry Draft 2013

Espindola to DC

De Rosario to Toronto

Barrett to Seattle (just for giggles)

if contracts can be agreed.

Is Husidic consider an INT player?

Cudicini isn't in the G's plans as far as anyone is aware, but unless we hear otherwise he'll remain on the roster for now.

Just guessing now, the G's will try to sign/trade for  1 forward and 1 winger, one of which could be an INT player, and they have about 400 to 500k available (taking the remaing difference for salary increases and all)

Villarreal loaned out to Cruz Azul for one year with option to buy:

Suck-ass move, in my opinion.  Are we going back to the DPs + a bunch of minimum-wage schlubs theory of roster formation from 2007-08?

Not sure I like that...

if it's a loan and the G's either get an improved Villarreal or a hefty transfer fee I'm ok with it. Otherwise I don't like it.

Shortterm at least it frees up a roster spot and maybe gets the G's a little loan fee (allocation money)

total  back of shit move loaning Villarreal to Cruz Azul.  MLS can spin it how they want, but this is nothing more than an admission that the can't afford to put a long term together.  if ever there was a case for an automatical DP conversion it would be a homegrown player.  this just pisses me off.
