At least we have several options at ST, even if nothing to write home about. What happens if Royer declines or gets hurt? Will Stroud be even MLS level?

its like the buffet at Golden Corral... bad food but plenty of it

#1361454 Armas Press Conference 2/13

"Asked Chris Armas what his expectations are for 2020 season given that much of team that finished in sixth place last year is back.

He said he's not thinking about the playoffs or MLS Cup and no one is talking about. He added his focus is on excellence & the process."

Well I'm glad nobody is thinking about the playoffs, because with our roster now, we're probably a good 2-3 spots out of it.

I really have no problem with this.   Do the work, and the results will come.   Be the best you can be.   One drill at a time, one half at a time, one game at a time.   Its fine and appropriate for us to here to bemoan whether we have the talent to win it all, but that stuff is just a distraction for the coach and players, especially in pre-season.  Keep the boys focused on the work.   At some point maybe it will be time for a big rah-rah inspirational, aspirational speech about keeping an eye on the prize, but we are far from that point.

I get it, I just dont think its as stupid of a signing. Weve never been able to make the 4-2-2-2 work, well probably see a decent amount of formations with a winger.

Chicken/egg, cart/horse.... we haven't  been able to make the triple deuce work because we haven't had the right players for it.

What else could be a factor? A few thousand (or tens of thousands, at most?) saved  in annual salary to get someone cheaper is certainly penny pinching, but what other reason would there be?

They probably want to make room for some young announcer they're grooming for the Salzburg stadium.

How does a PA announcer affect attendance in a negative way?

Just ridiculous.

The real answer is they probably got someone cheaper. Same old Red Bull.

Hope Bob lands on his feet.

Needed to get someone younger, who will press

.....

Moving forward, Hamlett said the team has money to spend and know they have to add players to strengthen the team all across the pitch.

“We have set up ourselves with our budget that we are in a good position to bring players in to make this team stronger,” Hamlett said

Oh, really? How's that going?

It's going about as well as the "stadium improvements" that forced us to put up those "temporary" tarps

Are any of Egbo, Jensen, or Sims even in camp yet? Not only are we not signing players, but the ones we have signed arent here yet.

Camp is a waste of time.   Everyone makes the playoffs, and they have all season to gel as a team... or so it has been explained to me when I called it failure not to have an improved roster locked down before camp.

I like Sean, but the quality of his play seemed to drop off poorly in 2019....at least from my view in the stands. Constant turnover machine.

The entire team dropped off

Sean Davis was a serviceable MLS central mid up until last season. Not sure if he was nursing an injury or what, but it looked like he lost about 3 steps last season. Was constantly late to challenges and 50-50 balls. Looked like he was running through mud relative to his other midfield teammates.

I can forgive the sideways passes since maybe that's what armas asked of him. But on a team with a 2 man central mid where you're expected to be a monster on both sides of the ball, Davis was decidedly sub par last year.

I know stats don't tell everything, but statistically, looking at tackles and interceptions and passing and the rest, he was actually better (marginally) than Casseres, across the board.  He doesn't have that bursty speed that helps on the eye test, but he's a better player than he gets credit for (why I make the Henderson comparison).

lol average MLS starter on 2 SS shield winning teams and plays a sport for a living while we post about it

as was said if he played straight out of high school he probably be playing in Europe now but got a degree and plays a sport for a living so worked out.

Also plays out of position as he is more of an 8.

TBF, every average MLS role player plays a sport for a living while we post about it, but they are still just average MLS role players.

#1361028 The Fire Chris Armas Thread

Posted by RedBullScouse on 07 February 2020 - 12:17 PM

- The Coach ran the team into the ground

- Hamlett is absolutely incompetent and has no idea what he is doing

- The roster wasn't good enough

- the Overlords don't give a shit and are holding the team back

- They finished fairly comfortably in a playoff spot and were 15 minutes away from advancing to the second round

It's impossible to reconcile all four. Which is, again, not saying that someone/something is GOOD. You can even argue that they should clean house across the board.. But someone has to be performing above the line of Not Fucking Up.

I'll accept an argument that Hamlett and Armas are both not good enough to take the team to where it needs to be. But there's some push/pull here. As I see it, either Armas did a mediocre job with what Hamlett handed him to work with, or Hamlett did a mediocre job of giving Armas a competent roster. It can't be that both of them just fucked everything up and yet the team finished where it did.

There are 5 there to reconcile, not 4, but I see nothing conflicting there.     We finished 23 points lower than the season before, 16 places lower in the standings, with 5 losses at home,  got the 6th of 7 playoff spots, and crashed out of the first round.    If we finoshed mid table the year before, you'd have a point.   Given our starting point, that's fucking up.     The roster wasn't good enough for a championship (ownership and Hamlett fucking up), but they were certainly good enough for better than that (Armas fucking up)

#1361005 New 2020 RBNY Jersey - Black

Posted by RedBullScouse on 07 February 2020 - 09:36 AM

It's very sad to me that a logo the size of a stamp is what qualifies for a retro jersey. And that they're parading it so proudly as such.

No one called it a retro jersey.  Its a tribute, "TYING BACK TO THE CLUB’S ROOTS WITH A CELEBRATION OF ITS ORIGINAL COLORS."   The badge was just a nice extra touch, given the template confines.
