It may be harsh, and it may not be his fault that his agent fleeced Red Bull, but a guy making $300k has to be fighting for a starting spot at the very least. In a salary capped league, that's too much to spend on a guy who can't even win the super sub role.
At least we got him on a free, after watching him trial with us for over a month... wasn't it a $2M xfer fee for Matty Ice, sight unseen?
Well, I'd hazard a guess and say that BWP's numbers were way, way worse over his first however many minutes with the club, when compared with White's. In his first half season here, people were calling him a dud.
And now compare it to BWPs last 1000 minutes or so.
He gave an interview somewhat recently (Seeing Red media day maybe?) where he said that he said that he still wants to play in the champions league someday. We've been lucky with the work permit, but you'd have to think that if he's going to make a move it'll be in the next couple years.
It sold out day of game, and there were hundreds, if not thousands, outside trying to buy last minute. I sat among the tiny contingent of Iceland fans.
My grown son I were alone in our Iceland colors (no ancestry; we jumped on that bandwagon after their Euro success) , and dozens of Peru supporters asked to have their pictures with us as we walked into the stadium, and at our seats. Then, when the Iceland national anthem came on everyone around for several rows turned and looked at us, so we stood up and loudly sung the whole thing with made up Scandinavia sounding words. We received a rousing applause.
Maybe I'm being a little too cynical here but it seems very generous to assume that it was Hamlett's intention not to replace Adams. My bet is he just he ran out of time after trying to keep the rest of the squad together and/or didn't have the connections to make a like-for-like replacement happen.
Adams was irreplaceable at any kind of realistic budget number.
Yeah thats great and all if we actually buy replacements for those that leave. Tarek has been solid enough, so were not in dire straits of Long leaves, although our depth takes a big hit.
On the other hand, we had an entire winter to buy a #6 to try and replace some of Tylers attributes and did nothing. They pumped up CCJ, who looks more like an 8, and start an 8 and a tweener 8/10 over him.
I think the consideration made was that our back 4 was so good they could afford a more attack-minded Rza next to Davis, without making a 1-for-1 Adams replacement. That may still prove to be valid, we just haven't had a solid back four in place for much of the season to test that. Last night certainly didn't make me feel all that comfortable with it.
He is definitely getting a few points under part B criteria, so it would depend on the subjective review. Far from a slam dunk, but I doubt that Southampton would just willy nilly make a bid if he has no chance of going there now. Preparing a winter bid in July seems a little far-fetched.
The guy wore the US captains band in the Gold Cup. There have been exceptions made for less.
