My money is on the dumb fucking tourists. They'll take a picture of a mugging in progress for bragging rights back home. :)+

Word is some thought it was some Halloween display/gag at first & started taking pics.

At first I didn't want to believe this because I knew him. He was part of the group of RB youth coaches that came to my town for summer camps. People here are torn because he was a cheerful and happy guy, always good nature and happy to work with the kids.

Sad day

Unless reported otherwise, I REFUSE to believe that this was some "random" act. The way Mike was killed, speaks more of retribution rather than a simple mugging. I mean look how many times he was stabbed? The dude who did it wanted to make sure. Or, maybe I've been watching way too much "Law and Order"...

Even one of the earlier articles the cops said that the cutting off of the ear and other things made it "very personal". Combine that w/ the footage that showed they walked together makes it sounds like it's someone he knew. Unbelievably sad.

Let the investigation take its course. There are few random murders in NYC, but some do occur.
If Jones was there to meet someone, his gf & other friends might know something about it, and should advise the police. Detectives will check his cellphone calls.
It's also possible that he was approached by some psycho; they spoke, argued & he was attacked. Almost every time I'm walking in Manhattan, some nut is acting out on the street.

We are good enough to beat the best teams, and bad enough to lose to the worst teams.

''The crime scene quickly became a tourist attraction with visitors snapping pictures of the puddle of blood, a gore-splattered iPhone, and the severed ear under a cup.''

There's a lot of sick fucking people in this city........

if they're tourists, then they aren't from the city

Now it's the RedBulls fans. they may be even louder than the DC guys who, for reasons beyond imagining, had 50 seats saved for them up front.

Philadelphia: I love you guys, really, but you're getting schooled.

The noise in here is deafening.

The vast majority of murders occur between people who know each other. Random murders occur, but they are only about 10% of the total.

Wrote a tribute about Michael today for CBS NY.  I wish I crossed paths with him during the one year I covered RBNY. Sounds like a truly wonderful man and someone who will be missed on both sides of the Atlantic.
