A bit bummed about Mullings but agreed it was time to either move up or move out.

Oladayo Thomas, Amos Shapiro-Thompson, Henry Wise, Dija, and Will Meyer also gone.
No major surprises there. Thomas tore his ACL, Amos already announced that he was moving on, Wise left the team months ago, Dija already announced he is back from his loan here, Meyer can't stick around with both Marcucci and Stokes in the mix and not getting time over current academy keepers.

Staying:
Stokes and Alexandre become HGPs for the first team on 1/1.

Tanner Rosborough to join them at the end of 2024.

Mohammed Sofo under contract.

Rafael Mosquera sticking around on loan.

Dylan Sullivan improved throughout the season so glad that he is getting another year.

Frank Ssebuufu and Ibrahim Kasule are both gems at the Next Pro level with first team capability. Glad they will be back.

Omar Valencia pushed for a spot with the first team for much of the season. Will be interested to see how they give him time with Ofori and if he gets time with the first team during the preseason.

Juan Gutierrez a bit of a surprise to be sticking around.

With Mullings gone, that's it for Hamlett's 2022 and 23 drafts. Total games played: 6 (Nocita 2, Mullings 3, Shapiro-Thompson 1). No starts.

2 out of the past 29 draft picks remain with the organization (S.Nealis and AJ Marcucci; 3 if you include Barlow)

Nocita not making it to the first team was never in doubt to me. From the moment they drafted him, I just felt that it is so difficult for a guy who is 6-8 to thrive at the pro level. It just seems too big to deal with speedy forwards with a lower center of gravity.

happy with the churn here.  should just be rolling the dice with as many guys possible and see what happens with next pro team.  By two seasons from now top should have a bit more balance in terms of defense vs midfield/attacking homegrowns that should help out a bit too.

hope that the money Denis used to use buying draft picks moves towards buying the rights for other team's homegrowns that fill prospect pool holes for us while continuing to hunt internationally.

think this is how things are moving. They did a hg rights swap with nycfc for a us YNT player rumors of a highly rated us YNT kid coming from another mls academy they were in on the kid who signed pro with sac republic

I liked Mullings but bringing him to the first team isn't the answer. We have other young talented kids and this team is screaming for older players that will be difference makers. Plus, Red Bulls probably doing him a favor so he could find a team to have a bigger role. Im sure they would bring him back if he can't find anything better.

He is good and could have contributed to the first team. The international slot hurt him. Hopefully get goes to toronto, Montreal or Vancouver and does well.

If we didnt have D Nealis or Harper Id be open to him as a cheap backup. But we have enough numbers at RB anyway and he lost his RB job in next pro also. So we can aim higher

I think it was telling that an academy right back took his spot this year, but he converted to right back last year. He absolutely earned the MLS minutes he received this year in that position, but he did get caught up the field a lot and relied on his speed to get back.

Being the best defender on the 2022 USL team wasn't exactly a tough task.

Current RB Depth Chart:
Duncan
Harper
D.Nealis
Mina

Next Pro:
Copeland Berkley graduates in '24.
Alex Gomez might see some time from the academy when Berkley leaves for college.
Joey Zalinsky a senior at Rutgers in '24 but might be back as a Next Pro signing in 2025.
