Many fans and reporters of every sport seem to think that most coaches are idiots.

Thats not how I view him. I love Mike. However, I believe hes not held in high regard within the league.

Thanks for the link. Still, I disagree.
Is it the job of the HC to track YC accumulation?
AFAIK, assistants track stats like this.
Example in basketball: fouls & time outs remaining.
Second, in a tied home first leg, go for it.
You cannot expect to win in NE.
That was probably the stat Petke remembered.
Finally, I would welcome him back.
Does anyone think Mike is homophobic?
His behavior should not be considered unforgivable.

On a humid summer night after the euphoria of what is still our best World Cup team, I went to a MetroStars game in the summer of 2002 and Clint Mathis was up as a substitute in the 2nd half. He was gone for a while for WC duty, so fans were clapping as soon as they saw him get up at midfield. After a brief discussion with the 4th official and coaches, Clint went back to the bench and no one in the stadium had any idea what was going on. It turned out that one of the assistant coaches forgot to include him on the official game lineup card, since he was gone for so long. The assistant coach was canned because it's his job to ensure that the lineup card is correct. When it's yellow card accumulation in Champions League play, World Cup, whatever, the onus is always on the head coach to speak to the player(s) involved.

I don't believe he's homophobic. However, he loses a lot of sympathy when you hear his excuse for using the slur instead of simply saying he was wrong. He's a nice guy who seems to be stuck in the 1980's.

Statistically, Milutinovic was the worst coach in franchise history, but in reality, Petke was the least knowledgeable of them all (except for possibly Eddie Firmani). Mike's personality and coaching ability would be better suited for one of the U19 Boys Academy teams in NJ instead of an MLS team, in my opinion.

As I said. HC did not get sacked.

Agree with 1. Not sure about 2.
Many OGs have not caught with the rapid changes in pronouns and insults.

Petke was the least knowledgeable of them all .

How could anyone know? Did he ever admit this?

We are good enough to beat the best teams, and bad enough to lose to the worst teams.
