The option to buy is $1.5 million according to the second article.

Word seems to be that a bomb threat was called in, which is why the gates opened late. Cars being searched with dogs coming in. Not that I expect a full stadium or anything but I do think there are a lot of people delayed getting in tonight.

You can take NJ Transit train to Montclair Heights, I believe is the name of the stop. Takes roughly 50 minutes, if memory serves.

There's a train leaving Penn at 6:41 that gets to Montclair Heights at 7:31. Coming home there's a train at 10:29 or 11:17 if it goes to extra time.

One upside of NJT vs PATH: Train beers.

#1407329 How much time is the ball in play?

semi-related: can anyone explain to me why stoppage time is always longer on the second half?

I think because that's when most or all of the substitutions tend to happen.

I think just like the academy pipeline, there is a lead time in regaining fan interest. Stadium opened 2010. Henry was here 2010-2014. The 25 year olds who came in 2012 are 35 now and have other requirements at 7:30 on a Sunday night.

This certainly rings very true for me personally and you may have hit on something that I never considered, that fans are always cycling in and out and we may have just never generated the next cycle. I'm 36 now and started going in 2011. I had a pretty consistent large group of friends that would go to games from roughly 2011 to 2016. It was always a big day out, the pre-game sangria at El Pastor, etc. They're all gone now; either moved away or lost interest or stopped having the free time to go to games.

#1403893 (No) attendance, again

I can't say the attendance has a huge impact on my enjoyment of going to games one way or another, but I do wonder sometimes what the players think about it.

I'm also just extremely curious to know what is going on behind the scenes. I know all sports teams keep this kind of stuff close to the vest, but I would love to see the underlying numbers to understand where the drop off came from. The season ticket base? Casual ticket purchasers? Less freebies, group sales, and discounted tickets? The decline happened so fast that it's a real curiosity. 2017 was the highest attendance season other than the inaugural year (at least in terms of official tickets sold/distributed).

It feels like this came on so rapidly without many external factors (as much as people want to blame being a feeder team, not winning MLS Cup, etc. I'm not convinced that suddenly caused thousands of people to just stop coming).

Anecdotally it feels to me like the base of die hard fans hasn't really changed that much, but casual viewers have just evaporated. It softens the blow of sitting in a half empty stadium because it's cool that everyone else there is so into the game, but it's just very strange. What did the team do or not do to just suddenly lose casual attendees so suddenly?

The Vanguard is a great pregame spot. Good beer list, lots of Red Bull fans there whenever I've gone.

I just wish there was something nearby with a big outdoor space. I really miss El Pastor and Catas.

I'll be honest I find it absolutely hilarious that by all appearances Denis Hamlett didn't get the memo that he had effectively been rubber roomed, and instead of finding another job just hung around for two years, long enough to find himself basically in charge again.

One question was what would get you inside the arena earlier? I've literally been putting on every survey about fan friendly concession stand prices like Atlanta United which has shown gets people inside earlier cause they aren't being ripped off on concession stand prices so they show up earlier and eat inside.

Same. Most of my written responses surrounded concessions. I think it's a huge failure in the game day experience that probably does not make much of a difference in whether die-hard fans attend, but almost certainly does for casuals. And I would certainly be more likely to show up early and have food or a beer instead of doing that elsewhere if either the quality or the price point improved.

I'm starting to develop a little brother syndrome over here and if they keep bullying Armas like this I'm gonna be forced to start defending the guy.

City just had their third straight game without scoring. If we can win our game in hand against Miami then the derby would be an opportunity to go level with them on points. Unimaginable a month ago to even be discussing the possibility.

If their goal is to eventually sell the team it's hard to see how freefalling attendance and revenue is part of the plan. Same with selling soda; not sure how no one watching or even being aware of the team is achieving that goal. If their goal is to be a feeder club for Salzburg and Leipzig it's hard to see how a group of players who are failing to even pass the test in MLS is part of the plan.

Whatever their actual objectives are, they clearly are failing at achieving them.

I have, in the parlance of Gerhard Struber, a "big fear for my chest." NYCFC has had a couple shaky games recently though and we always seem to get up for it at home so who knows.

#1388140 Red Bull is garbage

Posted by CurbYourNewUrbanism on 06 August 2021 - 01:36 PM

Some of it was definitely luck, it just seemed you saying it was mostly luck.

One element from those years, missing now, is veteran presence in the squad. I dont think BWP becomes BWP without practicing with Henry everyday. Hes said as much. Grella was a seasoned pro, that probably had a better understanding of what was needed to win games than kids like Harper or Amaya.

Our forwards now have promise, but theyre works in progress. Theyd both benefit greatly from a veteran DP striker.

Having Amaya OR Harper would be great, but we need a DP mid that can order a beer.

This is what confuses me most about the Red Bull approach the last few years. If the goal is to develop young talent to eventually sell on, surely having a good veteran presence in the team is key to that happening. It seems like having some veteran DPs around would further their development goals while also building a winning culture (also good for young players!) that can actually contend.
