That is wayyyy to much for him. He was making just about what he should be making. It's all about Me-Ro.Dero is now dc's highest paid player as a non DP (they have 2 dps on the roster). So basically they bought down the amount over his 335k with allocation money instead of using the 3rd dp slot on him.(cash strapped owner didnt want to play the 3rd dp fee) Thats a fuck load of total cap space for 1 player. You'd have to assume he's atleast a 500k total cap him when you factor in the allocation buydown.

Yeah, in the end of the day we couldn't have afford him.

I think he's worth it to a team like DC, who need some hint of credibility and where he can be most productive. Here, not so much, when we need to money for depth players. That is wayyyy to much for him. He was making just about what he should be making. It's all about Me-Ro.

Is this for real? The guy is the reigning MVP, a guy that has been shortlisted for MVP almost every season since 2005. His goals and assist figures are among the top of MLS history, he is only 33 and was won 4 MLS Cups as a player.
The guy is worth DP money, easy.

Have to agree with O-Sack on this one. Statistically, give me one reason why DeRosario should not get DP money?

He deserves dp money, but DC had to go the max salary +allocation cash route on him. Thats a huge chunk of total cap space for any player. It will cripple their ability to make moves. Especiallu since they already have 2 full time dps.

Cap & allocation wise it must be cheaper to go the DP option of a $335 hit and pay the rest of the DP's wage and "luxury tax" of $250k out of pocket.
Then again, I've a feeling the pockets of the owners in dcsum land ain't that deep.

Don't get me wrong, he does deserve it O-Sack, but every team has a set amount of cash for allocation. with allocation and salary being two separate things, if you use allocation to pay down someone's salary you're neglecting some other aspect of the team. for instance, he's probably making $500K+, which means DC had to use upwards of $150K in allocation to lower his salary to make him appear to have the max-non DP salary for salary cap reasons. we used $150K in allocation (if not more) just to acquire Cooper and Conde this off-season. it's a win/lose situation. He deserves dp money, but DC had to go the max salary +allocation cash route on him. How about this?
Screw DC!! I hope they trade 3 1st round picks for Troy Perkins and Freddy Adu.
Then I hope they lose ever single game this year.
Then I hope they blow up that piece of crap stadium and move them to St. Louis.
That's the only conversations I want to have about the scum.
The New York Red Bulls previously kicked around Major League Soccer as the MetroStars with limited success. But after transforming under a new banner in 2005, the Red Bulls have become a force to be reckoned with in the Eastern Conference. The club has made leaps of progress since its previous incarnation and now has its focus on bringing the league title to New York. Well allocation cash is not fixed, it does change through out the year based on deals that happen going forward and trades. 150K in allocation cash isn't that much all things considered. If spending that amount was the difference between keeping DeRo and not keeping him, it is hard to argue that theinvestment is not worth it.
The real issue is DC's other Designated Players are pants. In fact no other team has had a string of worse fucking DP's in the DP era than DC United. It is a huge reason they have sucked since 2008.
Emilio turns into a DP then shits the bed, Gallardo turns out to be a oft injured turd, Boškovic isn't even DP worthy and nothing to write home about, and this new guy Salihi....probably gonna be a turd as well.

Many teams carry upwards of $300-4$00 in allocation cash a year (some even more)depending of transfers, trades, and or special allocation assignments from MLS (CCL and expansion). A 150K allocation buy down is fairly modest by MLS standards these days.
