I went back and looked at our record vs playoff teams this season. It was 5 Wins, 8 Losses, 5 Draws. Against the top 2 teams in the east: 0 wins, 3 losses, 2 draws. We also lost to the top 3 teams in the west (and yes, those games were on the road). Basically there is no way you can spin this into we are a good team or had a good season. We were mediocre dreck, that is in no way satisfactory to me.

You of course cherry-picked again and ignored the 2 wins against those same 2 top teams in the East - in games arguably more important than the regular season. Or the 3 wins and 2 draws against the 3rd and 4th teams in the East (both a whopping 2 points off second). But I guess there's no place for nuance at all and your wildly arbitrary framing of the argument is all that matters.

The win in the Open Cup against Hartford was a game we absolutely didn't deserve to win. They should've been up 3-0 within the first 30 minutes. But even if we give you that we played them 3 times at RBA and only won once. Anyone trying to frame the "win" vs Toronto in the playoffs as a real win is out to lunch. When the scum "beat" us in the second leg a few years back but got knocked out do you think they considered that an accomplishment? You are fine with mediocre, I'm not because we deserve better. We were crap this season, and if you want to argue that I quote Bill Parcells: "You are what your record says you are."

I like how you say that we didn't deserve the Hartford win but actual results/record is all that matters. Anyway, the Parcells quote circles back to exactly where I jumped in yesterday: if you're saying the only thing we should be judged by is our league record, then that's equivalent to saying that we should have tanked the cup early to avoid any negative impact on the league. Again, that's a completely acceptable view, but you/we can't have it both ways ('only the league record matters' and 'we should be trying hard in the cup' are directly contradictory).

I'm not fine with being mediocre. There's plenty of gripes to be had about our season or how FO doesn't spend or Jesse's tactical and strategical decisions or players' individual performances. But I'm also not fine with poorly constructed arguments or lazy narratives so I will point those out when they pop up.

Seattle has won the Open Cup like half a dozen times while being among the best teams in the league. The idea that we can't be good in both is the problem here. As I noted teams have had deep cup runs while having good (and even great) regular seasons. Why are we incapable of that?

It's not that we can't be good in both or that's impossible. It obviously is, but it's also not easy and doesn't always happen. Maybe we were lucky in the cup this year (definitely vs Hartford, winning penalties is always a lottery, definitely on the late equaliser and winner vs Cinci).

Maybe other teams/managers/players deal with fixture congestion better or have an easier schedule than doesn't impact them as much (KC's schedule advantage vs us this year was obvious). Don't get why you can't admit that the cup had some impact on certain league games this year.
