#1308253 Metro - Hartford Game Thread

Whether or not he's accumulated the necessary amount of cards, Sasha will be suspended for the same reason that Villa was not suspended for the last game despite the fact that Villa's actions were far worse than Sasha's...

Early on in the game, Villa made a run that started off-side. It wasn't called. Not two minutes later, another player of there's did the same, it wasn't called. We were simply lucky that a goal didn't result. However, those calls allowed them to build up and cause a stretch of defense.

The referee was beyond poor. He was out of his depth. At one point, Villa ran up and simply hacked down Felipe with a kick from behind that didn't remotely get the ball. It should have been a straight red. Not even a yellow was given.

The game was a joke.

With no midweek Open Cup game, no need to contemplate resting anyone against BoyCity. Just go out and win...

I know that Miami and Cincy have bounced out MLS teams, but that shouldn't occur if we play it right. I don't see a reason to rest guys. Those teams will wear down if they have a game the weekend before...

I'm really excited for the next Salzburg throw-away player!

#1302408 Marsch goes

Posted by Pebble on 06 June 2017 - 07:24 AM

Marsch has tried formation changes, but he still pretty much relies solely on the high press to generate offense.   He's never implemented anything to help break down an opposing team that is just going to bunker.  He never chooses a Starting XI based on how the game is going to play out.  Like, why is Muyl, our best defensive winger, on the bench against Patti, one of the top offensive wingers in the league?
When I say he's inflexible, I'm talking about his ideas to generate offense and his squad selection.

Offense that is created from individuals breaking down defense is a byproduct of individuals that can break down defenses. At best we have Sasha, Felipe and Grella. That means teams won't be taken apart at a skills level.

Muyl is fine but he's not necessarily winning the 1v1 battle. Grella can do it but he's not been as good this year. Veron hasn't shown any ability to not simply run in a straight line.

What you want is a specific player. That is and isn't on the manager.

#1298582 Sacha not called up (then, called up)

Posted by Pebble on 21 March 2017 - 06:38 AM

To all you Wondo lovers.. he's back!!

Is it just me or does this lineup look basically identical to what JK was calling into camp?

That would make sense. You've guys that have played together and are familiar with each other. Also, while JK would leave some guys out, he did usually call up the better players we have. He just used them incredibly poorly.

I won't be surprised in the least if they lose. I'm not impressed at all by the roster.

They should not lose at home to Honduras. Ever. A pure MLS roster should beat Honduras at home.

They get the benefit of the doubt for the time being, but if all they have to show for themselves are more academy signings a month from now, I fully expect pitchforks and torches marching toward the gates of Red Bull Arena.
Who am I kidding, anyone who's been around long enough to be fed up with all the crap is too old and tired to cause any trouble, and most fans of recent vintage think everything the Austrians do is just swell. RED BULL SPONSORS MY BOY NADESHOT BRAH!

Correct. At one point, I could move. Now I'm just immobile...

#1293145 Curtis AWOL

miles better than soler, imo.

Correct. I don't hate Curtus despite how much I dislike what he did to Petke.

#1291874 Jesse in Leipzig

Posted by Pebble on 15 December 2016 - 08:10 AM

RBNY didn't get bounced from the playoffs due to Jessie's management. BWP missed a sitter on the road that changes the dynamics completely. Sacha missed a PK at home early in the game which levels the playing field. That's not Jessie. The guys were in a position to succeed because of Jessie and they didn't execute in the dramatic moments.

Well, yeah. He's the first to "retire" from the team.

I'm so glad Veron started. Doing so eliminated all of the problems we had from the last game which were entirely caused by Grella...  :)+

Did you miss how he used his speed and technical ability to beat his man out wide and to the end line, then cut in to set up Damari on Sunday? Way better than anything our other wingers had done.

Veron checks almost every box for things you'd want out of a winger. Give him the chance. Grella has done very little the last half of the season to deserve his position right now. And he's shown even less in all his playoff games when teams have limited the effectiveness of the high press.

If Royer was fit, yea start him. But after missing so much time and not even making the 18 yesterday, I don't know if you can expect him to go 75'.

This wasn't missed. What you seem to be ignoring is the fact that Veron was able to utilize his speed late in a game because the defense was tired from chasing Grella. They were also tired due to the pressing the Grella did up the wing. I'm not saying Grella had a good game. However, his defensive workrate is vastly greater than that of Veron.

The reality is, Marsch played the game right and the team had multiple opportunities to score. BWP had two chances that were essentially one-on-one with the goalkeeper and couldn't put it away. This isn't a standard practice for him.

If BWP puts that first chance away just a few minutes into the game, the rest changes entirely. Maybe Veron doesn't see the field. Maybe he does as a late sub centrally. Maybe Montreal opens up more and exposes their backline leading to more goals given up. Ultimately, the reason for the result was our usually on-point strikers missing the chances that were there.

#1286598 Sacha gets the call

Posted by Pebble on 02 September 2016 - 06:52 PM

I don't know what y'all are talking about. I'm certain he'll start the next game. Sasha demonstrated that he's the answer to the USA's questionable centerback pairing. He'll lock down the central role of a three man back line.

#1283831 Does Veron have a future here?

Posted by Pebble on 24 July 2016 - 08:42 AM

It is patently obvious that Veron needs to play more.  Certainly over Muyl who has energy and effort which is good in spurts.

It is...?
