If we get a legit MLS all star ST and he's back up that will be an excellent strike force.

Josef Martinez fits the bill if they want an MLS Allstar. Im all for it since he is a proven scorer.

Looks like the deal is almost done. Going to be 2 years with another year as option. Hopefully he's brought on to be a super sub and not the main striker. Has a proven MLS career and good on the defensive end so this should mark the end of Barlow.

He'd better be the backup. He has never registered more than 1,500 minutes in an MLS season. Asking him to start regularly is inviting injury.

He's no world beater, but he's exactly what we've been asking for and entirely out of character for us, in so many ways, which gives me hope. It indicates a different philosophy at play.

Very happy with this Herr Schneider
Indeed different more educated philosophy
Still need 1st striker

Bradley Wright-Phillips "I prefer it at Red Bull Arena, but it was OK. I could imagine it being good for a baseball crowd.

Better than Klimala or Barlow so that is good.  This deal only makes sense to me if they can successfully off load Klimala and bring in a real upgrade to start.

Why does everyone think he'll be 2nd choice?

He will be the starter unless we re-sign Elias.

He hasnt started regularly for multiple years, I dont doubt that the geniuses in our front office think Burke is the savior but hes clearly not.

Cause that's been his role lately. We have a lot of off-season left and hopefully a lot of money to spend (I know I know) on the other striker spots.

And there's my reasoning.

Philly is stacked.  He wasn't benched behind Klimala, he had Gazdag, Carranza and Uhre in front of him.   His numbers coming off the bench are outstanding.   He's was on pace for a 15 goal season, with plenty of assists.  I know super-sub numbers rarely translate to full time shifts, but he's a legit starter on a lot of teams in the league.

Good chance he's the #1 even if we do sign Elias.

Philly fans for the most part have said that Burke thrives more off the bench than as a starter. They describe him a lot like Barlow, but actually good at soccer. A huge body you throw out for the last half hour to punish tired defenders. They warned his goal and assist tally last year was maybe a tiny bit flattering compared to the eye test, but overall have good things to say.

Ideal world is still that we sell Klimala, buy a new #1, buy Manoel or an equivalent #2, and have Burke as #3. I'm trying to decide how big of a deal it would be if Burke was the #2 guy if one of the other moves doesn't materialize. Hopefully not too bad?
