ran my team into the ground

What is wrong with you people? He won the SS taking over Jesse's team midseason. Then he effectively lost BWP and Adams and gained fuck-all in return and finished in a mediocre playoff spot. I'm not saying he's Sir Alex Ferguson or that he should even keep his job, but ran the team into the ground? What exactly did he do?

39 games managed, 21 wins, 12 draws, 6 losses. Horrific.

Using a roster we all agree is shit. Do we really believe that any reasonable MLS coach (AKA not Jesse) would do meaningfully better with this group?

I'd be OK giving Armas a shot with a better roster, but I do think there's some pretty legitimate concerns that he's just been riding the waves left in Jesse's wake. Tactically and culturally the team has been on a slide that can't be explained by the roster inactivity alone. Too many failed attempts at getting the team to play a Backe-style passing game, too many individual players losing focus for long stretches of the year amidst transfer rumors.

When I ask myself the question - 'what has Armas uniquely brought to the team that's made them better?' I end up drawing a blank.

He went into Columbus with a horrible game plan that didn't work, lost that leg and then continued to use the same horrible game plan that didn't work in the first leg in Atlanta and we got blown out. He's not a good coach.

Someone better update Armas's Wiki page, because that's where he got the wrong numbers from.

Yeah man that's all fine. I tend to agree. That's also a categorically different concept than "he ran the team into the ground."

I mean what more do you need than, blowing a 3-1 lead in playoffs last year. Oh he blew our best chance to win the cup, buy changing philosophy against Atlanta.

Scoring is down under him, no inspiring tactics, playoff chokes.

The guy is a joke. Needs to go.

And I think even in the shield year, there was a qualitative difference in how the squad played after Jesse left (even if we won games and backed our way into the shield).   I saw it, and lots of my friends concurred with that assessment.

As to last year, we played without a clear identity.  At times we pressed, at times we sat back, at times we played long balls, and at times we tried to build out of the back.  And we generally didn't do any of these things convincingly.  I hope Armas kills it this year--who wants to see anyone on the team fail?--but I'm not too sanguine about our hopes.

Please stop confusing people with facts.

The New York Red Bulls previously kicked around Major League Soccer as the MetroStars with limited success. But after transforming under a new banner in 2005, the Red Bulls have become a force to be reckoned with in the Eastern Conference. The club has made leaps of progress since its previous incarnation and now has its focus on bringing the league title to New York. I'd cut him some slack for trying different things; better to try that and fail that just repeatedly slam your head in the wall trying the same thing just because it's "the system."

The problem is, nothing really worked consistently. Definitely needs to do better this season or he probably won't be back next year.
