#1349627 EPL Interest in Aaron Long

Posted by Arsenal14 on Yesterday, 05:34 PM

bid was allegedly less than $3m.

Maybe half that.

He's in basically the same situation that Geoff Cameron was, and Cameron moved for something like $2.5 million.  I know the transfer market is inflated compared to 2012, but that rise hasn't impacted centerbacks nearing their late 20s all that much.

Like I said.

Anyway, I think the price we should accept is $7.5 mil for an immediate move, and $5 mil for a winter move/summer sale & loan back.  I don't think anyone will offer that though.

I cant imagine he will be here next year.  Given his age, the club will have to sell either this summer or over the winter to maximize any fee it will get.  In light of that, a summer sale with a loan back to RBNY, or a winter sale, is fine by me.

I feel the same way.

I don't want this to be a club that stifles the ambitions of its players.  If he has a chance to play in the Premier League, and he can go at a time that allows us to find a replacement, then I wish him well.

As a general club rule, I'd make it clear to any players joining the club that they won't be allowed to leave in the summer under any circumstances.  Winter, feel free; summer, absolutely not.

#1349535 Reserve teams moving to USL-1?

Posted by Arsenal14 on 19 July 2019 - 12:21 AM

i think we're a team that's worthy of staying. but i think a big part of this is the attendance issue.

Less attendance, more "these reserve teams are taking up places that an expansion ownership group will pay 8 figures for."

Of course, I wasn't making the point that it's impossible to beat them. But, that they are, without question, the best team in the league by a wide margin.

538's Global Club Rankings have LA right alongside Freiburg, Nice, and Tigres.

Their MLS #2, NYC, comes in alongside Sheffield Wednesday and Blackburn.

That's quite a gap.

Let's face, seems that every year we have guys that just eat up salary and dont contribute. For what Ivan and Jorgensen(sp?) make, we sure are shitting the bed when we could have just traded for and MLS journeyman for a sure bet.

Jorgensen is ass, but the logic to buying him makes sense.

Ivan never made any sense from the start, even if his salary was a third of what it is.

Royer PK was incredible.
Brian White is the starter for now.  Let BWP work his way back to full fitness (I don't think he is 90 minute fit) and get into form.  Lets see what happens from there.
We have 5 games in 20 days so rotation is in order.  I think BWP gets 35 against Toronto, 60 on the weekend, and rotate from there.

I agree with this.

It's also crazy that, for as good as White has been, his minutes/goal ratio in the league this season is worse than BWP's ratio over his ENTIRE tenure here.  1 goal every 152 minutes for White, 1 goal every 132 minutes for BWP.

I like Davis a lot, but he doesn't have the instincts to clog the passing lanes like Dax and Tyler, which is what you need from a 6 in our system.  He's a smart, physical, athletic player that presses well and compliments a smaller, more technical Rza, but Rza isn't intercepting a lot either.  That's why, this year, good passing teams like Boy City are able to work around the press so easily once they get in our half.    Plus, he and Casseres are a little too similar when paired together with Rza or Kaku in front of them.

Weird Casseres stats:

He's up to 3 goals and 3 assists in 10 games (all starts) this season.  That's pretty good!

However, the team has a record of 2W-4D-4L when he starts.  That's pretty terrible!

Thats not fair, they have a couple of Eredivisie starters.

Right, that's an insane comment.  Their starting XI spent last season in:

Eredivisie: 5
Eerste Divisie: 2
Premier League: 1
Azerbaijan: 1
Portuguese 2nd tier: 1
EFL League Two: 1

Their subs came from the Eredivisie, Belgian 2nd, and USL.

Hardly a bunch of Dutch amateurs.

Still, one of the most boring matches I've suffered through in a while.

Whether its been Ream, or Miazga, or now Long, it seems our defenders play far better for their clubs than for country.

Ream's pretty shit for both club and country, but point taken.

Watching Long, in particular, play with the US is like watching the NBA stars play the pick-up game after their talent got stolen in Space Jam.  He's barely recognizable.

Zlatan makes $7.2 million this year or, in other words, 87% of our total payroll.

Gio dos Santos makes 78% of our total payroll to not play.

What a flop he was.

I would love to see a yearly salary breakdown of a guy like Dax, Chris Wondolowski or Kyle Beckerman, someone who has been in the league for years and through the various stages of MLS salary growth

MLSPU has the data going back to 2007.

2007: 30,000
2008: 33,000
2009: 34,650
2010: 48,000
2011: 175,000
2012: 300,000
2013: 600,000
2014: 650,000
2015: 675,000
2016: 700,000
2017: 800,000
2018: 800,000
2019: 800,000

Someone else can do that for other players, because that was a lot of work on a phone.  Pretty crazy rise though.

This forum apparently doesn't support the Euro symbol, but you can still jam a £ in as one of the e's.

Im absolutely certain he would be a defensive upgrade over Murillo.

Murillo is literally good to give up 2-3 big chances per game. Its infuriating.

Exaggeration doesn't do a good job of demonstrating your point.

Remember the days when you would have maybe a couple guys in the 250 -350 range, plus a DP or two, and the rest of the regular starters were barely over $100k?   I remember thinking when Dax got like $350, "good for him, finely getting paid real money."

And now, we have 5 players making more than the max budget charge of $530,000.

That's tied for third-fewest in the league.

The salary growth in the last few years has been terrific.

Lade genuinely shouldn't see the field again unless every other player is hospitalized.  That's 3 points lost and a knockout loss in the span of 4 days that fall directly on him.  Completely inexcusable.
