#1333307 Cahill leaves for Asian $$$$$

Posted by Arsenal14 on 17 September 2018 - 03:18 PM

I remember when he came over and some Everton fan/blogger was on Seeing Red and talked about how Cahill would make sure Marquez shaped up. That's the level of esteem in which some held Tim Cahill.

Since, he's just chased cash. It's more than a little sad for everyone involved.

Except for his bank account.  Guy has 20 years to earn good money in his career, and he's taking advantage.

Shaming players for trying to earn money has to be one of the weirdest things that sports fans do.

Etienne is so fucking useless.

This is the most cringeworthy name for a new club to date, in my opinion. Not to mention they stole Palermo's colors.

Real Salt Lake is still the worst by a mile for me.

Holy crap.  I had no idea this was planned:

Is this real or a pipe dream?  Cuz I agree:  a team in Lincoln Park would prolly outdraw the Fire.  Great neighborhood for a stadium.

As someone who used to drive 3.5-4 hours from my home in upstate NY to go to RBA 4 or 5 times a year, I'm used to the long commute for games.  When I went to the USA - Brazil women's game at Toyota Park last week though, it took me over two hours to travel the 14 miles to the stadium.  Just...infuriating.

I'm hoping this USL stadium works out, because it's walking distance from where I live now, and based on the number of conversations I've had with borderline soccer fans who are extremely excited about it, I get the feeling it will be a huge success.

People who have the phantom love affair with Escobar need to relax with that.  He's looked pretty good a couple times this year but last year when he was getting regular games, he wasn't good.  I understand not wanting Collin out there, but some people talk like Escobar is so much better.

Escobar has played 651 minutes with the first team in MLS.  I'm sorry, but there is no world in which I'm calling that "regular games."  That's a shade over 7 games in a year; there's no way I'm casting judgment on a player with that little playing time.

When you have a guy who has demonstrated repeatedly that he is not good enough for a league (Collin) versus a guy who has been fine recently when given an opportunity and played throughout the World Cup (Escobar), I sure as hell know who I'm hitching my wagon to.

#1330849 Watching Etienne wiff chance after chance

Posted by Arsenal14 on 30 July 2018 - 02:41 PM

A lot of us said BWP couldn't finish, until he started to. This thread gives me the so-Metro feeling that Etienne is going to get impatiently traded away, only to flourish elsewhere.

BWP had 2 goals in 408 minutes in his first season here.  A goal every 204 minutes isn't good for a forward, but that was a pretty small sample.

Etienne has 15 goals in 5,965 professional minutes.  That's one every 397 minutes.

If Etienne was twice as good as he has been throughout his career, he'd be as good as BWP was at his freshly-arrived worst.

Maybe they're just playing Collin in the hopes that he looks decent for two appearances in a row so they can fleece a team for him. Ndam and Escobar make him expendable and there are needs - ie: two goal scorers. Ivan may be one.

Maybe, but even MLS's dumbest general manager can see this stat:

The Red Bulls have lost 6 of 21 MLS games this season (28.6%).

In games that Aurelin Collin has started, the Red Bulls have lost 3 of 5 (60%).

If you include the Open Cup (ie - all domestic competitions), we've lost 4 of 6 (66.7%).

#1330126 Should BWP get statue on entrance to RBA?

Posted by Arsenal14 on 22 July 2018 - 02:48 PM

What if he scored a natural hat trick in an MLS Cup final, but we lose 4-3 following 2 own goals and 2 PKs marginally awarded?

Then we burn down the stadium so we don't have to suffer anymore.

Our best American player Pulisic is Croatian and US Soccer can't take credit for his development. Hid dad played at the pro level.

I'm sorry, what?  He played for 7 years in a USSDA-affiliated club, and his dad played indoor.  I'm sure that home coaching helped, but to say that American soccer can't take any credit is ridiculous.

Plus, he's of Croatian descent.  It's not like he was born in Zagreb.  The Pulisics have been in the US for at least 50 years.

Muyl = weather the storm
Etienne = bring the storm, muddafuckas!

This team is superior to NYC, take it to them every time. Especially without Villa.

I was never fully sold on Royer being an adequate replacement to Sam, and still am not. He can score sometimes, and help posses, but the team just needs much more out of that slot if the other side is always gonna be a homegrown (pero what happened to Mines time?). Kaku out wide, with a bigger stronger TAM / DP kind of player in the CAM spot = nutmeg city and a cup run. KEVIN. PRINCE. BOATENG. Or similar.

Even excellent attacking duos can be shut down, especially on a postage stamp pitch. A trio of excellent attackers will stay scoring. See: ATL.

KPB just signed with Sassuolo last week.  He's sadly not available anymore.

#1328983 Marsch goes

Posted by Arsenal14 on 06 July 2018 - 12:50 PM

We aint gonna win shit with red bull as our owner.  Not as long as the minute we get good they start stealing our shit and shipping it over to Leipzig.

Basically our worst fears of this ownership coming true.  If Kaku balls the fuck out he's over there too in a year or two.

Yeah, being an affiliate has really destroyed Salzburg's competitiveness, right?  Losing players like Naby Keita to the bigger team made it impossible for them to make the Europa League semifinals last season and also win the Austrian Bundesliga in five consecutive seasons.

#1328966 Marsch goes

Posted by Arsenal14 on 06 July 2018 - 11:43 AM

What a shit organization this is. I mean I dont mind Jesse moving on to Europe but to do it in the middle of a season where the team is playing well to go and be someone's assistant is a shit move.

Made worse by the fact that its not like hes going to another club, he's staying within the RB system so basically our owners don't give 2 rats asses about us. Not that we didn't know this already and not that Armas cant succeed, but who in their right mind does this?

Lastly lets not forget how Marsch came into this team to begin with. By firing a coach who was not only a club favorite, but also succeeding and had no reason to be fired. All so this motherfucker can get an assistant job in Leipzig.

1) We don't know that he's the assistant.
2) Yes, the Bundesliga team that was in the Champions League last season and the Europa League upcoming is more important than the MLS team.
3) Players and coaches leaving in midseason is always going to be a problem in a league that plays spring-to-fall, regardless of whether the club involved is a feeder team.

Time zones have a huge role in the decline too.  A 9 AM game isn't getting the same viewership as a 6 PM kickoff.
