#1335918 Metro - Atlanta Playoff Thread

Posted by Arsenal14 on 12 November 2018 - 12:26 AM

"Hey, we won the Supporters Shield and our first playoff series!  Sweet!"

"Good job!  Here's your reward; a Thursday night home conference final decider on 3 days rest!"

This fuckin league sometimes.

I'm never going to understand what anyone at this club saw in Ivan to justify that signing.  He fucking sucks.

That would be awesome, November 8th is the final, I'd definitely make it out.

Any idea why the final is on a Thursday though? Seems silly when all the other playoff games have been Fri/Sat. Should have just have had the final on Saturday the 10th.

TV.  It's on ESPN2, and they're not going to bump Saturday night college football for a minor league soccer final.

The shadows at this stadium are awful for broadcasts

The red v. dark blue in these shadows is fucking brutal for the color blind.

Should always be light v. dark.  This shouldn't be hard.

Henry has been named the head coach of AS Monaco, where he started his professional career.  Huge congrats to Thierry!

#1333307 Cahill leaves for Asian $$$$$

Posted by Arsenal14 on 17 September 2018 - 03:18 PM

I remember when he came over and some Everton fan/blogger was on Seeing Red and talked about how Cahill would make sure Marquez shaped up. That's the level of esteem in which some held Tim Cahill.
Since, he's just chased cash. It's more than a little sad for everyone involved.

Except for his bank account.  Guy has 20 years to earn good money in his career, and he's taking advantage.

Shaming players for trying to earn money has to be one of the weirdest things that sports fans do.

Etienne is so fucking useless.

This is the most cringeworthy name for a new club to date, in my opinion. Not to mention they stole Palermo's colors.

Real Salt Lake is still the worst by a mile for me.

#1331515 Metro - Fire Game Thread

Posted by Arsenal14 on 10 August 2018 - 09:42 AM

Holy crap.  I had no idea this was planned:
Is this real or a pipe dream?  Cuz I agree:  a team in Lincoln Park would prolly outdraw the Fire.  Great neighborhood for a stadium.

As someone who used to drive 3.5-4 hours from my home in upstate NY to go to RBA 4 or 5 times a year, I'm used to the long commute for games.  When I went to the USA - Brazil women's game at Toyota Park last week though, it took me over two hours to travel the 14 miles to the stadium.  Just...infuriating.

I'm hoping this USL stadium works out, because it's walking distance from where I live now, and based on the number of conversations I've had with borderline soccer fans who are extremely excited about it, I get the feeling it will be a huge success.

People who have the phantom love affair with Escobar need to relax with that.  He's looked pretty good a couple times this year but last year when he was getting regular games, he wasn't good.  I understand not wanting Collin out there, but some people talk like Escobar is so much better.

Escobar has played 651 minutes with the first team in MLS.  I'm sorry, but there is no world in which I'm calling that "regular games."  That's a shade over 7 games in a year; there's no way I'm casting judgment on a player with that little playing time.

When you have a guy who has demonstrated repeatedly that he is not good enough for a league (Collin) versus a guy who has been fine recently when given an opportunity and played throughout the World Cup (Escobar), I sure as hell know who I'm hitching my wagon to.

#1330849 Watching Etienne wiff chance after chance

Posted by Arsenal14 on 30 July 2018 - 02:41 PM

A lot of us said BWP couldn't finish, until he started to. This thread gives me the so-Metro feeling that Etienne is going to get impatiently traded away, only to flourish elsewhere.

BWP had 2 goals in 408 minutes in his first season here.  A goal every 204 minutes isn't good for a forward, but that was a pretty small sample.

Etienne has 15 goals in 5,965 professional minutes.  That's one every 397 minutes.

If Etienne was twice as good as he has been throughout his career, he'd be as good as BWP was at his freshly-arrived worst.

Maybe they're just playing Collin in the hopes that he looks decent for two appearances in a row so they can fleece a team for him. Ndam and Escobar make him expendable and there are needs - ie: two goal scorers. Ivan may be one.

Maybe, but even MLS's dumbest general manager can see this stat:

The Red Bulls have lost 6 of 21 MLS games this season (28.6%).

In games that Aurelin Collin has started, the Red Bulls have lost 3 of 5 (60%).

If you include the Open Cup (ie - all domestic competitions), we've lost 4 of 6 (66.7%).

#1330126 Should BWP get statue on entrance to RBA?

Posted by Arsenal14 on 22 July 2018 - 02:48 PM

What if he scored a natural hat trick in an MLS Cup final, but we lose 4-3 following 2 own goals and 2 PKs marginally awarded?

Then we burn down the stadium so we don't have to suffer anymore.

Our best American player Pulisic is Croatian and US Soccer can't take credit for his development. Hid dad played at the pro level.

I'm sorry, what?  He played for 7 years in a USSDA-affiliated club, and his dad played indoor.  I'm sure that home coaching helped, but to say that American soccer can't take any credit is ridiculous.

Plus, he's of Croatian descent.  It's not like he was born in Zagreb.  The Pulisics have been in the US for at least 50 years.
