Good point; also not a Euro, but:.... but there hasn't been an over 30 euro defender in recent times that has dominated in MLS. If anything Marquez is a prime example of how one would most likely struggle...

THIS..Henry has done fairly well.... but there hasn't been an over 30 euro defender in recent times that has dominated in MLS. If anything Marquez is a prime example of how one would most likely struggle...
and i think most euros underestimate the talent and fitness levels in our league...

Teams in the MLS tend to make up for mediocre soccer acumen with sheer speed and athleticism. This holds for both defensive and offensive players. Henry has always been a superb athlete and can still overwhelm opponents with speed and power. This makes it possible for his soccer intelligence to make an impact. Marquez has never been a dominating athlete. It doesn't matter how smart he is if the players around him don't get it (as he so eloquently explains to the media from time to time).Henry has done fairly well.... but there hasn't been an over 30 euro defender in recent times that has dominated in MLS. I haven't followed Nesta, but it sounds like he admits that the very thing he needs most for MLS (athleticism) is what he lacks because the "speed of the Italian game has become to much for him." I can't imagine he's talking about speed of thought.

Euro Old Timers
a) want a big pay (and require DP spots and/or allocation money)
b) those of them that want to come to MLS in order to play in an less demanding league will fail. MLS has a huge travel amount (despite the recent competition and schedule changes) and on top is very athletic, so resting your legs and body = forget it.
the G's have ZERO cap room anyway (pretty much always as usual).
But hey if the G's can get rid of "ball to Grandpa = long high balls pretty much all the time) I'm all for it...
I'm looking forward to the day MLS clubs say this to most Euro Old Timers: "thanks for your interest, but sorry you're not good enough anymore for MLS (ie. too old, slow, expensive etc)."

As long as the aging Euros keep selling tickets & shirts, & TV ratings improve when they are playing, this trend will continue. LA & NY have set a precedence with this philosophy. There is a glimmer of hope, though. As long as teams like Portland & Seattle keep selling out their place without their 'brand names' we can hope. But I'm not holding my breath waiting for AEG to see this.the G's have ZERO cap room (pretty much always as usual).

We'd have to get rid of David, Robbie (yes please), or Landon to make this happen.
And just for thread continuity we're linked to Dinho again.

I think I said this here before, but when aging European footballer says he wants to come to MLS, that is the exact equivalent of a five-year-old boy saying he would like to be a fireman when he grows up.Why the fuck would anyone want to play in Qatar? Del Piero, how has he been playing? He's about 40 now, right?
