Ricketts, because that motherfucker stopped a bullet with his teeth.

No one else really made any kind of solid impact. Dunivant kept Richards under wraps, and Klein made some great runs, but everything was just sorta blech. Donovan was literally invisible until the penalty (and after as well). He ended the game with 4 or 5 really impressive ball-holding displays, but that was it.

Berhalter cleaned up several messes and sacrificed a tooth. He gets my vote.

Ricketts deserves it, but he'll get plenty of votes.

Honorable mention to the San Clemente Pizza Port employee that switched the TV over to the game.

Buddle! Yea Edson Buddle. He really helped take the pressure off the midfield by displaying excellent touch in tight spaces and holding the ball. RB was never really able to sustain any kind of pressure. Buddle also was able to get on the end of almost everything Ricketts kicked to him. The G's are a different team with Buddle in the lineup. Last game E-Bud enters and the G's gain the tie. This game E-Bud starts and the G's get the win. Next game I hope E-Bud plays 90 and the G's win in the run of play. (Sorry, I can dream can't I )
<_<

LD played well, but he needs to be on the end of those knockdowns and hold-ups Buddle creates. It is not as if they haven't been playing together. They need to get on the same page so Buddle can connect with Landon on the first or second touch. Not that it matters because the options coming out of the middle (Dema, Migs, Tudela, etc, etc, etc,) are simply non-existent. Ideally E-Bud should have three or four immediate options all around him. Not sure how that fits in Arena's system.

Ricketts did his job very well. He made two excellent saves and commanded the area, but not much was demanded of him. I think his long accurate kicks is really a notable quality that makes Buddle better. Berhalter did his job well tracking Angel, never losing his concentration, but the same can be said for Omar. The team is getting better and I think some more improvement can be made. I have my doubts that the G's will be able to do much more than they did in this game without better two-way players in the middle.

Those are very cogent points about Buddle, Berhalter and Ricketts (especially Ricketts), but I have to add:
First win and the first time she made it to the stands...

The wife was attending a conference in town. It was actually pretty empty for a Saturday night. The one in Solana Beach is always jammed weekends. In any case, there were 1-2 people behind the counter that continually snuck peaks at the game so maybe they were a little pro-soccer last night.

Where's Selma's? I didn't really venture too far from El Camino.
