I think he's the backup option in case the Brazilian Stallion can't be worked out.
"Obviously, I want to make a living (in soccer), to say the least," he said. "There's so much you can accomplish in the soccer world, and right now I'm focused on having a good season with the Red Bulls. Ultimately, our goal is to win the MLS Cup, and I see no reason why we can't." - #4 Tyler Adams

What are the chances the "RBNY" person who approached Ireland was Luke The Tank "approaching" him on the practice field and inviting him over to NYC for a pint? Rodgers: "Hoi, Steven, come and 'ave a game with us in New York and I'll shave me head, mate."

---------------Rodgers------------
Henry---------Ireland-----Richards
-------Marquez------Tainio--------
Miller----Conde--Holgersson--Solli
--------------Meara----------------
Super Subs: Lindpere, Agudelo, Cooper
At first glance our goalie situation looks very weak but with all that firepower in front of him maybe we can get by with Meara.
Fast up top and a very solid defense behind them. Man, I hope we geet Ireland or a player like him, maybe even a guy like Tomas Rosicky.
Rodgers is training with Villa so he might be talking to Ireland and telling him how great life is playing in MLS and NYC.

------Ireland-------------
Lindy-------------Richards
---------Teemu-----------
Miller-Keel-Holgersson-Solli
--------Keeper-------------
Subs: Dax, Cooper, Agudelo, Palsson, Ballouchy, Lade, Keeper
Marooned on a deserted island: Marquez
When (if/never) we go full strength, we have some great depth. Or not.

Both Tanio and Marquez are too slow and too erratic to be the lone man on the bottom of the diamond. So that formation wouldn't work. A 4-4-2 would be your best bet...

I think if Ireland was signed it would just be to bring a number 10; He will replace people as they age. But remember, we lose a lot of people to outside events.
