The transfer window only restricts players coming in, not players leaving.

The Mexican transfer window closes next Thursday, so we'll know his status for the spring soon enough.

#1338933 Attendance again

To me, it doesn't feel like it is just a club that just serves to be an advertisement for Red Bull. To me, it feels like the NY area MLS club, which happens to be owned by Red Bull.

I agree completely with this, however this is only something you would know if you are already a fan of the team. It's not something you would necessarily feel if you are new to the team.

I agree with those who feel the corporate team name is a barrier to entry, because it is usually one of the first things friends and acquaintances bring up to me when I talk about the team. Is there any precedent for it in the United States or Canada? This article would suggest no other than the hilarious Miami Hooters Arena Football League team of the mid-90s. So it is a unique situation in this country and something that for many people (though obviously not everyone) makes the team seem less appealing.

I do think that once you go to games and see what it's all about it becomes immediately clear that the name does not matter, but I can absolutely see how it would stop someone from getting far enough to discover that.

Even more absurd given that the NJ legislature is actively debating legalization and the governor campaigned on it.

#1337897 Attendance slipping

Posted by CurbYourNewUrbanism on 10 December 2018 - 02:48 PM

I actually can buy it. It seems to be a sports business trend that I have noticed taking off in other leagues. I know both the Florida Panthers and Carolina Hurricanes did it in the NHL. Reduce or end comp tickets and stop dumping cheap tickets on secondary markets (something teams claim they don't do but it seems pretty well known that they do). It seems to be primarily an attempt to prevent season tickets from being devalued by ludicrously cheap secondary market tickets. The result can be that actual attendance declines but paid attendance goes up.

It's the age old question of whether to maintain a certain price point for your product or just try to get as many butts in seats as possible.

#1337722 Parker signs new deal

From Kristian Dyer: https://theathletic....or-tim-parker/

Multiple sources tell The Athletic that the Red Bulls are close on a deal to sign defender Tim Parker to a multi-year contract. One source said that the deal would utilize Targeted Allocation Money (TAM) to lock down the center back. The Red Bulls declined to comment.

#1337712 Adams to Leipzig official

With This signing it made me think of something...

So if RB Leipzig and NYRB works with synergy, why can't NYRB and the actual Energy Drink RedBull work together? Can't NYRB they just go around the salary cap and or Fifa fair play rules by signing players to a low wage to stay under the salary cap but after signing him or at the end of his time playing with RedBull sign him to a huge RedBull energy advertising endorsement deal?

Like say for instance getting a guy like Macnelly Torres and since he's without a club and has no agent he could be a easy sign. And then sign him to say 100k... Then after he signs the deal and or even completed the deal or retired or whatever RedBull sign him for an endorsement deal for say 4-5 million

This would almost certainly be a CBA violation. I know that the NFL CBA has an explicit provision against this and I'm sure the MLS does too.

#1337661 No PATH service to/from WTC for 2019, 2020 seasons

Posted by CurbYourNewUrbanism on 06 December 2018 - 10:25 AM

I hope the Port Authority gets pressure (it's going to take a lot more than RBNY fans) to reconsider the alternative service plan they are providing, which is really an extra kick to the face. The fact that they have to do such a long shutdown is already tough enough (what were they doing when they shut it down on weekends for an entire year a few years ago???), but to add to it they are providing literally the bare minimum to compensate.

Now the only line from Manhattan will continue to have to go to Hoboken, switch ends, and go back out, something which adds considerable time to a trip. At minimum there should be some service on the 33rd Street line operating direct toward Journal Square without going via Hoboken. Taking it a step further, it may even make sense to send it all the way to Newark. Exchange Place could get a shuttle service to Journal Square (assuming ridership to/from Newark/Harrison is higher than Exchange Place, which I bet it is on weekends).

Posted by CurbYourNewUrbanism on 09 May 2018 - 04:25 PM

If he leaves in the middle of the season the replacement has got to be Hamlett, Armas, or Wolyniec. Someone who knows the players and the system and can be as seamless a transition as possible. With the way the team is playing they will want to minimize the disruption to the extent they can.

#1323662 Metro - Montreal Game Thread

Posted by CurbYourNewUrbanism on 14 April 2018 - 01:06 PM

Montreal is not a marquee opponent by any means but why is the attendance so poor today? The weather is gorgeous. There should be at least another 5k there.

Makes you wonder if they are going to change their relationship with Ticketmaster (and their higher priced tickets and service fees) going forward. I guess with the business metrics they must think its better for them to have an empty stadium with pricier tickets than more fans there with seats that cost $10 less?

They sold tickets for half price for this game. And I havent checked but Im sure they are the usual $10-20 on Stubhub. Not sure what more they can do on the price front.
