This result is the culmination of apathetic nature of this team of the last 5 years. This team has never had the killer instinct like an LAFC, a Toronto, Seattle, or a 2018 Atlanta team that would step on the throats of their opponents. It all goes back to us as fans who allow for this shit to happen and not demand better. Too much, "We love you Metro" and "as long as I'm breathing" chants. Time to be negative, time to boo our players for failing when we get back into the stadiums.  The positivity no matter the result is what causes our new USL players to play like bitches. Our positive nature as a fan base is killing us. It has cost us MLS cups, US Open Cups etc. We shouldnt be the goddamn pre 2016 Chicago Cubs of MLS. Hopefully Chicago and Houston fuck up their matches and we advance by a miracle. But we dont deserve to advance.

So it's the fans fault the team didn't win anything? Lmfao good lordy what a shit post.

spend too much energy on this team, and nothing changes.

Ill enjoy the however many weeks I have of not thinking about Chris Armas.

Normally I would agree. But this is a lack of heart. Even with this line up being bad. We had nearly 70% possession. Go win the fucking game. There was 0 killer instinct tonight. These players just want to leave the bubble.

70% possession means nothing if you dont have the technical ability to pass your way through a bunker on occasion. It has nothing to do with heart. Its a combination of a roster void of talent and a coach not knowing how to maximize what he does have.

Get mad at players for lack of effort. You shouldnt get mad at players because theyre not that good. That anger should be directed at either the front office for constructing a bad team or the coach for not putting them in a position succeed. This sure doesnt strike me as a team thats not trying. They strike me as a team that lacks talent top to bottom, with a mediocre, at best, coach.

Did you watch the same game I did? Granted the front office and coaching have done a piss poor job aquiring and developing talent. But the players showed 0 heart in the last 2 matches. You can even argue in all 3 matches they didnt care. They were slow and just plain lazy. Heart is something we deserve as fans and Metro didnt bring it,

I watched all 3 games, in their entirety. Did you think they lacked heart after they beat Atlanta? Did that heart suddenly disappear when they stepped on the pitch against Columbus? That is a BS, surface level assessment. I watched a team capitalize early on their press and grind out a tough win, albeit a bit lucky, and get outplayed against a struggling Atlanta side. I watched a team get completely outclassed and outcoached by a far more talented Columbus side. And I watched a team get burnt by 1 bad mistake and 1 bad fluke, but completely lack the creativity and fluidity to carve through a bunkering team. Absolutely no squad rotation through 3 games, a formation that does not match this roster, and a game where we played with 0 strikers.

Pretty sure this is the guy that made deranged comments towards Ali Curtis while Curtis was with his children. Dude has issues with keeping his emotions in check and making rational judgments.

It is just not in this clubs DNA to win knockout/must-win games (the Shield victories notwithstanding). Two Open Cup finals, one MLS Cup final, countless years of playoffs. Tonight. When the team was successful and winning Shields it was as if Red Bull Global built a European team able to grind out regular season results and wrack up points. RBG was content to win those Shields. It was what they knew. If Salzburg or Leipzig won a Shield in Austria or Germany it meant they were champions. New York was a champion in their minds. They have never constructed a team capable of adapting and winning in different ways. It has always been about the press and grinding out results. Draws were almost as good as wins as they meant points. I am not sure you need that killer instinct to win Shields, it is more about being consistently good. Im happy about those Shields but I have always felt this team NEEDED to win that 2017 Open Cup final to crack that cup curse.

They lacked heart against Atlanta as well. They got a fluke goal 4 min in and did nothing after that. They got lucky to beat Atlanta because they are more incompetent then us at the moment. We have 0 talent, 0 coaching, but most importantly the negative for us is 0 heart and that goes all the way to the top in Austria. The whole organization except for the ticket reps which are by far the best in NY sports is TERRIBLE. It will only get better with local ownership.

Floating in crosses to a 5 6 125 lb omir and 5 10 Royer.

Absolute brainless

To be fair this is usually how we've bowed out of the playoffs the past few years.

RED. BULL. OUT.

I personally apologized to Curtis about that. 2nd I dont comment much on here. I have commented on here a little more than 700 times in a decade. I didnt just willy nilly comment on here tonight. I have been going to Metro matches since the Caricola game in 1996. My opinion is well thought out. This team lacks heart and has done so for a long time. Especially in tournaments. The always fail at stepping on the throats of their opponents. Even though our roster is shit, and the coaching is shit. They should have easily defeated Cinci tonight because their roster is much worse. They just dont have it in them. They wont until the fan base demands better and vocally demands better. The team could careless about attendance because have to tarp 30% of a Soccer Specific Stadium. So not showing up for matches when covid is over wont change the attitude of the team and its players.

So, we started with the players lacking heart because the South Ward is too soft on them and ended up at the players lacking heart because they dont have a kinship with the Austrian overlords. Ticket reps are cool though. Thank you for taking me on this magic carpet ride.

We had nearly 70% possession.

A misleading stat, when the other team is content to let us blithely pass the ball around for a while, then float a cross in or attempt to thread a ball through to a double/teamed forward. The stat about 90 percent of crosses failing is a more accurate statement of our failures tonight.

We are good enough to beat the best teams, and bad enough to lose to the worst teams.

Possession also is a misnomer, which someone mentioned on here the other day. It's not actually how much time a team has the ball - it's what percentage of the overall completed passes a team has completed.

So, theoretically, if Tarek and Long passed between each other 99 times in a minute, turned the ball over, and then Stanko and Amaya passed the ball between each other once and held the ball for the rest of the half, the possession stats would be 99-1 in favor of New York.

So yeah, if a team stands off and lets the opposing midfield pass the ball around limply, they're going to get crushed in "possession," but that's fine so long as the completed passes aren't incisive. And ours sure as shit weren't tonight.

I dont think you will find a single person...not ONE who says the coach is the ONLY problem.

We need a new coach AND new players. TALENTED players.

I can't even imagine that there might be ppl who think once Armas is gone, the new coach will have the team go back to the high press, run themselves into the ground in 90 degree heat/90% humidity, win every second ball, and develop players who'll be NT level.

RIP Guillermo Romulo, Alexander Francis Orig, Celenio Eleazar, and my Mom, Resurreccion Eleazar.

RIP Cesar Castello, Mike Vallo, Glenn Stampiglia, Bob Paquette, and Warren Lee
