Getting players from RBS is not a bad thing. It's more of a bandaid. You get guys who already know the system and philosophy of the team. In theory, the only adjustment period is fitness if we get them during the summer. Yet, these guys are not going to be stars. They are decent role players with expensive contracts. It should only be used if we need to fill a gap.
As for scouting, rbny just invested in a lot of money on their scouting system. Let's see how this play out. Ideally, rbny should be holding massive camps in the Caribbean and central America looking for the next big star.
Yeah. I do not have a problem with RBS guys coming over. I see it as a piece of the puzzle. Pieces include:
1) Homegrown Academy Youth (Cheap in regards to salary cap - hopeful future sale will self-fund Academy)
2) USL graduates
3) Youth DPs - 18-21yo (Expensive but cost offset by average of future sales across say 3 players)
4) True DPs - 23-26yo (Expensive)
5) RBS/RB Global Young Promising Loans -18-21 yo
6) RBS/RB Global (and/or other e.g. Grella) Last chance guys - 25-28yo - Showed promise but didn't latch on elsewhere
We need somewhere like 4-6 new starters next year? I think you need to find players in any spot you can - including some sexy synergy. But that's only a piece of the puzzle. I trust Thelwell is in charge of puzzle pieces 1-4 above.

Always grinds my gears a little bit when people try to stop me from complaining about the Jets by saying 'at least they won a Superbowl!'
Yeah almost two full decades before I was born, forgive me if I don't have much of an emotional connection to that one!

Looking for the next South American star seems to be the domain for RB Bragantino, not us, because of "identity" or some other lame excuse.
There is plenty of talent in CONCACAF.

My only emotional attachment to that is from that first Super Draft in Philly, when we chanted "Even the Jets Have Won a Super Bowl." Kinda sucks we don't have that on them anymore.

true, both the Jets & Knicks have won their leagues championships
maybe a very long time in the past, but doesnt change the fact.
Knicks - 74 seasons, 2 championships in 1970 and 1973
42 playoff appearances
Jets - 60 seasons, 1 championship in 1968
14 playoff appearances
AFL: 1968, 1969
NFL: 1981, 1982, 1985, 1986, 1991, 1998, 2001, 2002, 2004, 2006, 2009, 2010
Metro/Red Bulls - 25 seasons
21 playoff appearances
We have already made the playoffs more times than the Jets and have half the amount of Knicks playoff appearances lol so with this comparison of yours all we have to do in the NEXT 35 SEASONS is win 1 championship to be "better" than the Jets and win 2 championships in the NEXT 49 SEASONS to be "better" than the Knicks lol
The Jets and Knicks are absolutely horrid franchises

Imagine sitting around 50 years from now saying:all we have to do in the NEXT 35 SEASONS is win 1 championship to be "better" than the Jets and win 2 ... in the NEXT 49 SEASONS to be "better" than the Knicks
I cannot believe that we still have not won a cup!
We are good enough to beat the best teams, and bad enough to lose to the worst teams.

Well, we are on pace to NOT do that so...all we have to do in the NEXT 35 SEASONS is win 1 championship

The worst part is that it has only gotten harder to win with the continued expansion of the number of the teams in MLS. It is most troubling that we didn't win in the years when it was way easier to win. We have much worse odds of winning in the next two decades than we did in the past two decades.
