It's academic because the player wasn't interested, but the front office had a plan.

Article also references the interest in 27 year old Tiago Ilori. This would indicate that there's not hard age cap with Struber/Thelwell, or at least 25 is not too old.

It makes sense if the new CB is better with the ball at his feet. Its not idiotic if you think theres a chance Parker could have a 2019 type season again.

At least a 30 year old CB replacement would be somewhat of a known quality. Unlike Parkers immediate replacement, Reyes.

I'd guess they are planning on Long to be gone in the summer. Probably like Reyes for development, but need veteran to pair with him. Long fills that role now, but is a short timer now.

Cruising around transfermarkt, looking for young-ish goalscorers from offbeat leagues.  Came up with three up top, one attacking midfielder.

1) Deni Juric, 23, 6'3", Australian-Croat at HNK Sibenek in the Croatian league.  8 goals in 19 appearances in his first top-flight season, had 10 in 17 in the second tier last season. Older brother is a 43-times capped Australian international.  Transfermarkt value of $660,000.

 

2) Filip Balaj, 23, 6'4", Slovak at Zlate Moravce in the Slovak league.  11 goals in 18 appearances this season, seems to have adjusted after smashing the second division with the MSK Zilina reserves and faltering with their first team.  Transfermarkt value of $605,000, contract expires in June.

 

3) Mahir Emreli, 23, 6'2", full Azeri international at Qarabag, who have won the Azeri league 7 times in a row.  11 goals in 14 in the league, a couple more in cups and Champions League qualifying.  Lots of experience in Europe, and he's been a regular starter since he was 20.  Transfermarkt value of $1.1 million, contract expires in June.

1) Onni Valakari, 21, 6'1", Scottish-born full Finland international (born while his dad played at Motherwell, before moving to FC Dallas), playing at money-laundering front Pafos FC in Cyprus.  12 goals and 3 assists in 25 appearances this season, but also put up 7 goals in his 19-20-year-old season at Tromso in the Norwegian top flight.  Transfermarkt value of $550,000.
