I still prefer Berhalter over Marsch for USMNT even if Jesse doesn't go to Europe.

My reasoning:

Gyasi Zardes is scoring goals as if he had never played a minute for the Galaxy, and basically everything on a shoe string budget.

More flexible tactically than Jesse.

RIP Guillermo Romulo, Alexander Francis Orig, Celenio Eleazar, and my Mom, Resurreccion Eleazar.

RIP Cesar Castello, Mike Vallo, Glenn Stampiglia, Bob Paquette, and Warren Lee

If Jesse can fix his weird brainfarts in big moments i would be all for him as the US coach. What he and Ali/Hamlett did throughout the RBNY system needs to be done with the US team.

I agree 100%.  Very impressive to see what Berhalter is doing in Cbus with all the off field distractions.

The US plays against so many bunkers in Concacaf though, and Jesse hasn't exactly figured out how to crack those.

I'd take Berhalter for the US by a significant margin.

JCO?

Good for Mexico....hope they have a little success so the Federation keeps JCO. I dont want him any where near the US National Team. He is rumored to take the coach spot after the World Cup.

I would love to buy low on Jorge Sampaoli, assuming Argentina continue to struggle and he gets sacked after the World Cup. He did really well with Chile, and I think the Argentina struggles are more due to the (relative) lack of talent and overreliance on Messi than the manager. Not to mention he's only been there for a year and hasn't had time to really fix stuff.

supposedly Chivas ex head coach Matias Almeyda is a prime USMNT HC candidate.

JCO?

IIRC, someone told me that the NYTimes did a profile on JCO, but never mentioned that he was our manager?

We are good enough to beat the best teams, and bad enough to lose to the worst teams.

Sampaoli only took over what Bielsa started. Bielsa was the one who cultivated and nurtured Chile's current stars. I don't think Sampaoli is a bad coach but I think the USMNT doesnt just need a coach they need someone whos going to create a system. Like a Bielsa, Tabarez, etc. Otherwise you're going to get the same results and no amount of coaching is going to get you a result vs T&T in Port Au Prince. The system, type of, players and nurturing of said players is whats going to get us over the hump.

Only after you develop this THEN you can think about bringing in the hottest coach of the moment to help push the players even that extra step.

Bielsa would be a great get but he's just been hired by Leeds (?).

Sampaoli used a very similar scheme to Bielsa's at Chile (after the coach between the two of them didn't, and the team underperformed), then helped guide them to two Copa America titles, AND is now considered a relative disappointment, so he might be in range for USMNT. Definitely think he would be better than the US names mentioned in the conversation.

Whoa. Yeah, that would explain it.

This just proves that the Championship is nothing but a retirement league for managers. ;)
