Manoel is on fire!

According to the latest Seeing Red episode, it appears that Manoel is playing with a chip on his shoulder/something to prove. Hopefully this carries over into the regular season.

#1441035 Luquinhas back to Brazil

Then they struck out on Vanzier. He put up decent numbers in Belgium but the Belgium league is not a top league. The front office needed to be extra certain that his talents could translate to MLS success and it didn't.

Don't teams from the "top leagues" shop in the Belgian league all the time though? Are they wasting their time?

And not sure it's a reasonable expectation that anyone can make extra certain that any player's talents will translate. But if we compare to Klimala to Vanzeir, I'd say someone who puts up decent numbers as a starter on a top team in the Beligan league would be more likely to have success than someone riding the bench not putting up any numbers for a top team in the Scottish league.

I will always prefer the front office who tries the Vanzeir approach.

It's the same FO that put the worst roster in recent memory last year though. Got rid of CCJ when he could have helped with play off push and in play-offs. You want people to show patience, sure. If you want to celebrate Luq is gone because we are going to get someone so much better, I accept that. I am just not there yet until that better player(s) actually is signed.

"Worst roster in recent memory" is a bit of a stretch. At the beginning of last season, expectations were pretty high considering we dumped Klimala, spent real money on a player with some promising credentials (Vanzeir), added a veteran striker (Burke) and felt like many of the players would improve or play at a similar level.

If Vanzeir kept his mouth shut and stayed healthy, if Burke stayed healthy, if Morgan stayed healthy, if Luq produced at the level he did when he first arrived...

The summer window was obviously disappointing, but why commit resources when at that point it was clear the team wasn't going to do much AND they were not confident in Troy leading the team or they knew that Troy was not going to be their guy?

The rest of the stuff is fair, I can't fault you for waiting to see a better player signed, I guess I'm just more optimistic that will happen.

I'm in the "Luq is a decent player who I enjoyed watching but was not producing at a DP level" camp.

I'm also in the "people need to show some patience" camp and let the other shoe(s) drop.

This front office is NOT the same front office of the last few seasons and is clearly not moving in the same way. Is that not obvious to everyone?

#1440848 Djordje Mihailovic "interest"

Posted by Bklynfootballer on 02 January 2024 - 01:03 PM

Hope this is legit. This is the exact type of move I wish RB would do more often, bring back a guy with a history of success in the league, like Acosta, Rossi, Savarino, etc.

Can we do something similar at the 9 though?

#1439702 Is Vanzeir a bust?

Posted by Bklynfootballer on 29 November 2023 - 04:19 AM

I'm sorry, I know you don't want to rehash, but I think this part is SO important for the sake of closure and moving on:

"The Red Bulls turned down an ESPN request to interview Vanzeir, but Ebobisse said he appreciated how the program benefited both sides. Cancel culture wasn't the objective, Ebobisse said; growth was. He complimented Vanzeir on his attitude, noting that the Red Bulls forward didn't just show up for the sake of showing up but was engaged in the program. Both players discussed what took place, and at the program's completion, Ebobisse said he felt "comfortable" that Vanzeir had done everything that the league had asked at the time.

"We were ready to welcome him back into the league as long as his teammates were, which they were," Ebobisse said. "In my eyes, accountability doesn't look like kicking someone out of the league or anything like that. It's more having that person acknowledge that they crossed the line, and going through a restorative process that hopefully leads to them no longer doing so. It's also becoming an advocate for players who might not be as aware of the cultural significance and [programs] that are available if they cross those lines."

People directly involved in the situation feel "comfortable" with the way it was handled and the outcome. I know that some people will always have certain criteria and ways they feel about it,but what Ebobisse is saying there at the end of the quote is what is at the heart of (my understanding of) true "anti-racist" practice.

The crowd was spirited again but the attendance was poor tonight. Saturday night playoffs and the entire upper deck corners are empty, as well as sections behind the goal.

Really can't blame people when we find spectacular ways to lose every post-season. I will never forget the atmosphere of that first playoff game in RBA, so incredible...I can understand people being worn down over the years. I've learned to not care about the number, the vibe was great regardless.

#1424525 Dante Vanzeir more than a rumor

Posted by Bklynfootballer on 03 February 2023 - 03:30 PM

the best part of this video is, every goal he scores leaves the opposition defense writhing on the ground, like some 80s video game.

I was most impressed by varied video editing transitions used...I don't think the same one was used twice!

But seriously, super excited. We get a fairly young European talent, who has done enough to earn a cap for one of the most highly regarded national teams. Of course Union SG is no Juve, but hope he can be our (budget) Giovinco. Fairly recent high performing players from the Belgian league have done well here (Sacha K, Pozuelo), I have high hopes Vanzeir will have a similar impact.
