A bit of a shock. He trained with the team almost every time there was a break from Michigan.
A couple years ago, this would have been a sure bet, but looks like the HGP class this year may just be Kyle Zajec.

We are good enough to beat the best teams, and bad enough to lose to the worst teams.

Sounds like the team wants to move on from him. He seems to want to play in Brazil or outside the US. Maybe the team wanted him long-term (or his agent wants to use potential other places as leverage?)Whose decision?
He did an interview a couple months ago that said the ball was in the Red Bulls court, but it sounded as if they haven't made it a priority.

I spoke with someone with the team back in the summer who expected the deal would be done once the college season ended. Same with Zajec.
From mid-August, appeared there was still interest:

Who are the "high profile" players that RB passed on a homegrown deal? Metzger and Lema came back via USL, so those were the right calls. Adam Najem played 5 games in 2 years for Philly.
Mason Toye? Noah Powder?
There was a brouhaha about them missing on Allen, and he didn't break through.

We traded Gallego to Portland and everyone lost their shit. Good times.

Included is a CLASSIC onionsack comment:
REd Bull is eternally hopeless. They sit on perhaps the greatest hotbed for prmosing young talent and they piss it way at such regularity and ease that I can't ever imagine this club actually building a solid core.

For as much grief as we give when some of these kids slip away, there hasn't been any to have set the league on fire.
Gloster and Olosunde were destined for Europe. Tim Weah was a brief pause here before Europe. Russell Canouse was briefly here before Europe and now DC.
Mason Toye, Juan Agudelo and Danny Bedoya the only others within MLS right now and we gave Agudelo a deal and Bedoya had a year with NYRBII.
Maybe Sammy Adjei Jr. could be considered a miss, but still unlikely he would have made it in MLS.
Noah Powder wasn't resigned by OCSC after this season, but will likely continue somewhere within the USL and possibly end up in MLS.
Decisions have been pretty spot on when it comes to academy players, especially since the USL team started.
Wish HGP had started earlier to not have missed the Dukas and Szetelas in their prime. Also, had a legit reserve team been in place who knows where Kassel, Hot, Chirgadze could have been (although guys like Castano, Manosalvas, Castellanos, Basuljevic, Politz, etc... didn't last there either).

Sounds like Borges is off the table.

Whats your source on Zajec (pronounced Zai-yeh-ts for anyone here unfamiliar with Slovenian). That signing would be very interesting for me personally for reasons I cant disclose.
