Here are the notable players that left the academy on Free (excludes guys like Dantouma Toure, Chris Gloster, etc...) stayed stateside in recent years and had some success.
The big ones we lost that have had MLS Success:
Jackson Hopkins
Mason Toye
Henry Kessler
Others that may have helped our reserve team:
Preston Popp - Rochester last year, North Carolina this year
Gennaro Nigro - Real Monarchs
Kevin Mearse - played with Phoenix last year
Dylan Lacy - FC Dallas Academy/a minute of Next Pro play
Tijuana Fatah - a couple goals for SKCII last year
Too soon to tell:
Edward Davis - Union Academy
Luciano Sanchez - Union Academy
Jeremiah White - Union Academy
Ezra Widman - Revs Academy
Nate Worth - FC Tulsa
Paul Smajlaj - more success with NYRBII, but moved to Cedar Stars

fwiw white we wouldnt have been able to sign Philly had hg rights. We still have Ezras rights and it was a mutual parting if revs want to sign him they will have to pay us. Think we may not have had Hopkins hg rights either hes originally from the dmvWhile it sucks to lose Worth, we haven't seen TOO many academy prospects (that don't go play outside the the country, typically in lower leagues outside Tim Weah) that have made it elsewhere.

Hopkins was in the DC system at 14 years old and only was with us a bit in 2020. He's officially a DC Homegrown.

Let the kid play in whatever US team makes sense for them but if they get transferred to a US team or abroad. Each US team that spent time and money to develop the talent should get a % to encourage pipeline. This should be an addition to whatever the solidarity payment FIFA requires for player development.

Total minutes: 27...
Not too sure this was the best move for him to springboard overseas.
