Calvinball MLS again.

If it's an issue of not having enough "homegrown funds" to sign Najem becuase they don't rate him that highly I guess I get it but it still sucks to see them develop academy teams for the benefit of other teams. Especially eastern conference teams that we have to play multiple times per year so if he's any good he'll come back to score against us many times.

Well the we own you route is not terrible if rbny is upfront with kid on where he stands and sends him to a team of his choosing if the kid does not have a future.

Or you follow the Metzger path to the 1st team, post-detachment:

Repatriate.

Sign 2 yr deal with reserve team.

BUST YOUR ASS.

Grand Marsch Tarkin notices, gets you signed to 1st team

And it doesn't end there.

Hey at least they didn't wait until he was getting married to ship him off.

Issue though if we sign him, he knows we don't really have a spot for him to play.  With Adams/Metzger at DM Felipe/Davis box to box and SK16 and Arun (who many value ahead of Najem) at CAM he could potentially have playing time issues at RBNY2 (throw in Valot, Bezencourt) let alone the senior team.

It is very important to try to develop a reputation of only signing the kids you will give a legit chance to prosper or players we de-attach from the academy ala Metzger.  And then god forbid the next one that deattaches is a Tyler Adams level prospect.

We can't expect to sign every single academy product. Even the tops clubs in the world have other clubs sign their academy players from under them. Then if you consider the cap and roster restrictions in MLS and that a lot of our academy kids go to college and won't be ready for MLS contracts until they're 21-23... I think we're doing great.

And we're at least getting some value in return for the guys who don't pan out with our team. I remember Roxburgh losing his shit when Armado Moreno just up and left to Liga MX for nothing.

Fortunately the Worms usually suck so hopefully the pick is first in the 2nd round.

Says a lot about Najem and how other teams think he'll do at the MLS level... For someone to do so well at the college level but not really have a ton of interest at the next level suggests he's limited physically.

TBF, Philly was not the right fit.
Will be sad when we look back and say David Najem had a better career than Adam...
