I wouldnt get too nervous since we are consistantly producing usmnt players and MLS players.

All of the guys we've brought up recently, before Mines an Omir, including Davis, had gotten Uxx USMNT minutes.  We aren't getting that now.  U17 we have just one guy.   U18?  Not a single guy.    U16?  Same.   That's a serious problem.    The well appears to have run dry.

To be fair, Metzger was highly talented and rated above Davis for a long period of time. But to understand it a bit more, Metzger was behind Matt Kassel.

There have been some talented players we produced but also some that flamed out quickly, whether due to injuries or not being able to take the next step.

Watch Metzger tomorrow with Memphis 901 as they take on our U23s, along with another highly touted prospect, Adam Najem. Both have the soccer minds and do quite well at the USL level, but neither was able to take the next step in MLS.

In 2016, the U20s had Tommy Redding, Andrew Lombard, Marcello Borges and Matt Olosunde roaming the backline. Outside of Olosunde who has rotted away at ManU, each had their shot here and the first three arent even playing this year. Also on that roster: NYRBII striker, Sebastian Elney.

The Castano, Hot, Borges, Kassel, JohnnyX, Metzger, Basuljevic, Zajec, Echevarria, A. Najem, Brandon Allen, Lema, Plewa, Juan Seba Sanchez, Powder, and Politz of the world are far more common than Adams, Olosunde, Agudelo, Miazga, and Gloster.

Our pipeline certainly has some future talent, but losing guys like Jeff Zaun, Bob Montgomery, etc.. have left a huge gap within our academy. Parents are enrolling their talented kids in academies like TSF, Cedar Stars, PDA, NYCFC, Cosmos, etc... that are staffing well. The US Soccer Development Academies have 27 teams in the Atlantic and Northeast alone.

New Jersey is like a Saudi Arabian oilfield of youth players. Not every one will develop, but plenty have.  The quality is sitting there. We have the system to bring them literally from middle school to the Bundesliga.

Shame on us if we waste this advantage.

Also, they have operating losses (maybe, with TV, Adidas & what not it is possible they aren't losing all that much). They have actual profits from selling players and paper profits from owning an appreciating asset in the team as well. So, it's a question of how you want to move the money around, but I don't  give a shit about the team crying poverty.  Current expansion fee is $150m; RB was credited as paying $25m for the team and $75m plus for the share of the stadium back in '06, and then bought the rest of AEG out & built the joint. But still, the value of the franchise was $250m as of last year (per Forbes), and the team has operating losses of $3m/year.  Leaving the stadium out of it, just going from $25m to $150m based on the expansion fee, that's 41 years of losses covered by the asset appreciation.

Leipzig got a $10m or so player in Tyler Adams for $3m, and even the 33% of his sell on that RBNY gets one day if he's sold is a free 66% going to the master account back in Salzburg and another 33% going to us, which is also going back to Salzburg at the end of the day.

So, Tyler saved them 2.5 seasons worth of losses (if not more than that) in a reduced transfer fee. They have enough money to fund the youth academy properly if they wanted to. There has been talk about them expanding it. I hope this current run is just a bunch of bad luck & bad management, that can be sorted out soon by getting the proper people.

We have (had) a great academy. Don't fucking blow this.

Since the bundesliga team started, it has been shitty for us finance wise.  They should consider selling the team :)

Seriously, I really dont get it it what RB gets from having a soccer team in America. I means Americans consume a shit ton of Of Energy Drinks other drinks like Monster. In fact its leading in terms of sales: https://money.cnn.co...bull/index.html

Not sure how a poorly run soccer team, where a majority dont care to come and support, and for those who consume it probably never heard of RB New York can help the Red Bull brand. RB should just cut its loses and sell. The bigger question is who can right the ship.

I know this is a blasphemous idea, but maybe at some level they actually just care about running a sports franchise for the sake of running a sports franchise without it all being about marketing for the energy drink?

They're not perfect owners and this year especially is not trending in the right direction on any front, but for the most part they've been at the top end of MLS clubs as far as investment has gone.

the ancillary non-drink stuff (i.e. soccer teams, formula 1, extreme sports, parachuting from outer space) is what allows red bull to position itself as a "premium" brand in the energy drink space.  absent any of that, do you think anyone would pay twice as much for a can of red bull as they do for Monster?

so to answer the question, having a soccer team in N. America allows RB parent to position itself as a premium brand.  and no they are probably not going to get rid of it anytime soon.

I also think Red Bull has realized that all the branded teams can both work as appreciating or profit producing assets while providing essentially free advertising.  For instance, why pay $50 million a year to sponsor a Formula 1 team when if you just buy the team you might be able to break even and get even more publicity. Same with Liepzig and Salzburg.  It might cost them $5-10 million a year to be the jersey sponsor but if they own the team they can get just as much if not more marketing value and possibly make a profit.
