This is so overblown it's unbelievable. There was a middle ground to be had between doing nothing and ignoring it versus telling everyone they are going to die and literally cancelling everything. Whatever that middle ground was, it's been totally missed.

Gee I wonder what happened to lead us here.

My buddy is a sports fan but doesnt watch or follow soccer at all. Every 4 years he gets caught up in the World Cup. He reads a few articles, watches a few games......then preaches to everyone exactly what the USA needs to do in order to be better. What formation we should play, which players should be playing, how the US Youth soccer set-up should be designed, etc.

All of us who are huge soccer fans and follow the game like its our job, have to listen to him boasting how he knows more than everyone else about soccer and people should listen to him because hes smart and none of the experts or hardcore fans could possibly know more than him.

All knowing that he will totally forget about soccer 2 months later and not pay attention to it until the next World Cup.

What do you guys think we say about him when hes not around?

Nothing good?

Glad to have scientists and doctors who have an actual education in this leading the local governments.

People have been saying the hospitals will be overrun on a daily basis. Let's see how dire it actually gets in 10 days.

I really hope that's the biggest problem we face, social distancing working out and people like you gloating how it never was a big deal.

Sure worked out well for Italy when people there kept going as normal against all warnings a couple of weeks ago.

We've had an illness like this every other year and there's been no response like this ever. We'll see how it plays out but I'll stick to my opinion right now.

I got a feeling this thread is going to go down in Metrofanatic history as featuring some of the worst takes in the history of this fine website.

You're entitled to your opinion and all, but please understand that this is flat out wrong. COVID-19 has already more than doubled the death toll of SARS, MERS, and Avian Flu combined. And that's all while experts believe cases may continue to grow at an alarming rate over the next few days and weeks.

COVID-19 spreads more rapidly than the others, and is much more difficult to detect due to the long incubation period and lack of testing. That's what make these extreme preventative measures necessary.

We have not had an illness like this every other year.

The long incubation time as well as the fact that you can have people walking around without hardly any symptoms for a weeks time makes this virus unique.

The RESPONSE that has followed (I assume you mean either the hysteria or the drastic measures or both) is due in large part to our federal government not being ready to handle this. The response is completely understandable considering what is happening right now in Italy.

You cannot offer the path of one virus as a defense of another.

For instance the swine flu only had a mortality rate of 0.02%.

Sorry, I don't take anyone's opinion seriously who was freaked out more about rainbow flags in the South Ward than a literal pandemic.

If you scan YouTube looking for Bradley Wright-Phillips, youll find numerous goal compilations, a few interviews and, eventually, an excerpt from the grime mixtape series Lord of the Mics.

Hey, to each their own. The mortality rate is lower than you think because way more people have had or currently have it and never were diagnosed, which is part of the reason why I don't buy into this hysteria. This might die out in a month and we might look back and think it was an over reaction, or the opposite might happen. Remains to be seen

You cant put together a plan of action on REMAINS TO BE SEEN.

My grandfather went to war for America. I think I can sit on a couch for America.

We'll see what happens like I said. I'm not concerned about dieing from this. There's certain people in the population that should be and extra precautions should be taken by those people

This goes deeper than "I'm not going to die from this, so I don't care". It's about more than just yourself.

It's also not as cut and dry as an "opinion", you're just being willfully ignorant.

I disagree. I haven't done anything to endanger anyone and I've always had good practices when it comes to cleanliness. My only real gripe is that we understand the mortality rate is higher than the flu but far from a death sentence, and most of the only deaths are those that are 80+ years in age. There are perfectly healthy people under the age of 40 afraid to even leave their house, and that's due to the fear mongering media.
