Sorry if this has been covered, I haven't had time to read through the whole post game thread, but I was really quite mad at Jesse for waiting so long to make is subs on such a hot night. Multiple players were dragging and putting in his last sub at the 89th minute is inexcusable in my book in that kind of weather. Kemar for example for whatever reason could barely move for the last 25 minutes. Muyl as imperfect as he is helped up the energy level. Fresh legs for 20 minutes rather than 1 could have resulted in just the right break we needed.

Marsch for all of his positives still leaves me scratching my head sometimes.

This is something Marsch needs to eventually get right. Our bench was shit last weekend, but you have to utilize your bench. This is a not a JV soccer team. Our limited offensive players need to be given more time to do something. Not a combined 25 minutes.

We missed having Etienne (who btw plays vs Argentina today) is looking better this year. It's true that someone was saying we need an Alan Gordon (height) or Wondo type player who scores garbage and sometimes a golazo or two. Don't have a type of player with that history on this team. Last player we had like that was Wolyniec.

I was actually going to argue we should go after Alan Gordon in the Random Player Name Thread this past off-season, but didn't want to get laughed off the board.

In reality, though, he would've been a good, cheap pick-up. The Fire got him from Colorado for practically nothing IIRC. He's a veteran MLS target man with a proven track record of scoring garbage goals. He's the guy you bring on in the 81st minute to hoof the ball up to when nothing else is working. And he still makes it work, by the way.

In lieu of him, I thought Bonomo could be that guy, but I guess he's not ready quite yet.

If anything, I thought Abang was going to be that guy..good size and young. I mean how can you forget his late goal vs the Cows 2 years ago. Sad that he didn't turn out.

So this was a pretty good analysis of the tactics and some of the issues we faced. I spoke to the author a bit, and noted that the temperature definitely impacted the match as it was the first one that was hot and humid. Also once a metro wrote about this, and nearly every player mentioned it post-game.

But he does point out the issues of when an opposing team slows down the tempo and some of the tactics they use. Of course, becasue of our backline, it's going to be hard for teams now to ping it over the back.

Thinking more about this game, if I was Jesse, what I would have done besides the adjustments he did, was to push Adams higher up the pitch to disrupt more and create more turnovers, and push Valot into a support role (which he's played in the center earlier this year). I am thinking of the tactical adjustments against TFC in Leg 2 on Bradley.
