Fair, but in just five matches after Armas he has a goal and three assists.  He had one goal and one assist in the nine matches in 2020 coached by Armas.  Small sample size for sure, but still.

He may not be the best fit for the system, especially if Struber is going to push the press more than Marsch, but he has been an effective chance producer under every coach here not named Armas.

this and we've been looking for a forward since last fall and havent found one of the right quality at this point.  If we sell Kaku we NEED to get 2 starting caliber forwards.  I still would sell Kaku for right price but it would put a lot of pressure on this offseason to do something we've struggled to do.  If they dont have 2 forwards lined up that we can execute deals on at the time of Kaku sale, don't do it.

I know we have to sell Kaku at some point here, but do we think having both him and Clark out there at the same time could work? Or is the nature of the #10 that there has to be "the guy" out there who is the center piece of every attack?

It figures to be a different pressing system than we saw under Jesse.

If they are playing the diamond, its going to be super compact, and theyve already used Clark in a RWish position in his 2 starts, so I dont see why he couldnt play as the RCM if thats the route they want to go.

the guy is the system.  System high counter press creates the chances.

we don't have to sell Kaku

Yes I hope we soon find out how having both them out there works - hopefully well.

Bradley Wright-Phillips "I prefer it at Red Bull Arena, but it was OK. I could imagine it being good for a baseball crowd.

Dunno, but Kaku played out wide before he arrived here and his delivery with his left foot is nothing short of spectacular.

Maybe not next year but I think we do at some point or its going to be nearly impossible to convince Red Bull to take any risks on expensive young players in the future. Taking a flyer on a guy like Yearwood for $500k is one thing, dropping $6M will probably need some proven return on investment before it becomes a regular thing.

Personally, especially if we play a skinny diamond, i dont see how Clark couldnt play as an 8 since Yearwood can cover so much ground and sweep things up behind him.  Its not like Clark doesnt work defensively when he plays higher up the field anyway.  Its a non issue to me honestly.

RE: Kaku

he for sure wont be here forever but Kaku hasnt flopped enough to the point where Red Bull should question giving Thelwell cash if he wants it.  We know they bid for Ivan Toney so Thelwell has cash.

Kaku can be great here. I also think he might be at his level, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Think Yearwood was closer to $1-1.5 million, but there is some value around the world in that price range.

Whoops looks like I mistook our fee for the one Southend paid for him last year.

so sans Kaku:

-----------Royer-------UNK-----------

-------------------Clark-----------------

----------Valot-------Yearwood------

-----------------UNK--------------------

-UNK---Long---Parker----Duncan

---------------Meara--------------------

Those unknowns are big holes - not alot of depth - and I still think Long is out - maybe even in January.

Very optimistic with Clarke there

Optimistic that he will be a starter, or that he will be on this continent?
