Muyl isn't Messi

Disagree.

If you scan YouTube looking for Bradley Wright-Phillips, youll find numerous goal compilations, a few interviews and, eventually, an excerpt from the grime mixtape series Lord of the Mics.

I like Muyl as a late game sub in our system a lot. Not sure if this is worth the international spots, but of course what really matters is what we do with them.

Muyl was good & sometimes great but I am not really sorry that he was traded. If his replacement is as good then I will be Happy. If it is a bust then just really sad.

I don't have an issue with moving theses Academy players on if they're not going to be part of the Starting XI.  Muyl was blocking minutes from guys like Fernandez and Stroud, both of which probably have a higher ceiling at this point, and I doubt either is going to be a huge drop-off in quality.  And, for all we know, Thelwell may already rate those two ahead of Muyl.

plus it looks like the majority of our better prospects (Calrk, Lacava, Toure) if we play this 4-2-2-2 also play the same position.  they need the same opportunity to earn time like alex had

Muyl grew on me over the course of his tenure here.  Good motor, decent swiss army knife type bench player for MLS.  That said, we have a glut of players at a similar level and I don't mind Thelwell coming in and using some as trade pieces to build the team in his image.

I know I'm preaching to the choir, but man wouldn't it be amazing if we were moving Muyl to bring in someone from the org with a ceiling higher than MLS back-up? That's where I see the ceiling for both Omir and Stroud right now, Omir especially having had a chance to prove himself plenty.

I dont mind trading anyone...if it makes the team better.

I dont see how this makes us better.

If it was simply to free up an international spot Id argue there are guys on the international list that dont need to be here.

International and DP spots should be used on difference makers.

Agree on the first point.

I think Omir has a high ceiling.  At this point, Muyl is what he is.  Omir is only 21 and looks like he's had an issue with adjusting to the physicality of MLS.  If he can get past that, I think he has a chance to be better than a backup.

Haven't seen enough of Stroud make any judgements.

Oddly enough same as Dax trade and he is joining Dax
Clears space for Omir Stroud and Mines who are younger
Plus others next year
In the 2nd 2 its Kaku Valot Omir Stroud Mibes Rza even Royer - thats 3 deep
RZA is gone next year and then Clark LaCava possible for next 1-2 years

Bradley Wright-Phillips "I prefer it at Red Bull Arena, but it was OK. I could imagine it being good for a baseball crowd.

Some of my favourite Muyl highlights:

An assist that even Henry or Xavi would be proud of, and one of BWP's classic finishes as a bonus: https://twitter.com/...270244950167552

Maybe our most recent headed goal from a corner (?), vs DC in 2017: https://twitter.com/...410836257361920

One of many nails in the NYCFC coffin during the Red Wedding: https://twitter.com/...938564538032129

Probably his best finish in a RB jersey, with a left-footed rising shot in the near top corner, against NYCFC again: https://m.facebook.c...393326354246270

And an obligatory Muylesque control and finish from inches out (a rare and beautiful build from the back NYRB goal - notice Sacha's blind pass for the hockey assist): https://twitter.com/...369971957022720

All things considered I would rather keep Muyl than Rza Omir Mines or Stroud...just to name a few.

Maybe rather than RZA but hes 30 and a mostly non factor so hes probably out the door anyway.

Omir is 21, Mines is 20, Stroud 23 so they are all younger will give you comparable attributes and are all on the reserve roster. Open up a senior roster spot and get value for someone becoming an increasing non factor in the team.

Shrewd move

100% agreed. Moving Dax to make room for the next man up made sense because Adams was clearly an elite talent. Moving Muyl for the likes of the current RB2 group is a totally different story, none of those guys have shown even a flash of the potential Adams had.

Thelwell impressing me.  Run the team with conviction.  If you're wrong, whatever but at least make things in your image.  I didn't hate Muyl, but as the league gets better and better, someone not very athletic such as him I believe becomes a bigger liability.  Guys who work hard though are valuable so that hurts.

Muyl was nothing more than a bench scrub, but how is getting rid of him and not actually getting an upgrade in return is impressive? Now if he uses that slot for a good DP, that's a different story, but losing a player with no better one back is not that impressive.
