all-time ... a lot of defenses with sub-30 goal seasons.

13, in 23 MLS seasons, some of which were 30-game.
SKC 2017 GA was 29; they finished W5.

We are good enough to beat the best teams, and bad enough to lose to the worst teams.

The attacking quality of the league has also gotten better over the course of 20+ years. You're not going to compare MLS 1.0 forwards to guys like Josef Martinez.

For my money, this is easily our best ever back line, and possibly best ever MLS all time.

Right. I'm talking about all-time. There are a lot of defenses with sub-30 goal seasons.

Also, a lot less impressive offenses in those years.

I'm no MLS historian, and my league knowledge is extraordinarily biased to our guys, but certainly this has to be among the best back fours in league history, no?   "Recency Bias" isn't much a factor in a league that gets better every year.

From a pure defensive standpoint there's a few teams that enter the conversation, at least since I started following the league closely around 2010. The RSL and LA defenses from 10-11 and the KC defense from 12-13 come to mind.

But there are a few things to consider here because the league has already changed so much since then:

1) Attacking play has improved considerably over the last few years. Seems like you used to get a handful of teams per year with less than one goal against per game, since 2014 I only see three teams total who have accomplished that.

2) Our fullbacks contribute more to our attack than I can remember compared to those RSL, KC, and LA sides. Murillo regularly takes the ball 50-60 yards up field on the dribble, Taxi has one of the best left footed crosses in the league.

KC allowed only 29 goals last year, which I just realized scrolling around. However, they only scored 40 goals. Our season this year is significantly more impressive.

I mentioned above, 2017 SKC finished W5, 10 in SS.
Of course, they did win the USOC ...

I agree 100 percent. I think from a qualitative perspective, again, this is arguably the best back four I've ever seen in MLS (it's at least in the conversation). I'm just saying from a statistical standpoint, it's not going to be in the top 10 by goals against, so it's not a shut and dry case (again something like the RSL 2010 team could say they have a claim to the throne as well).

Long played at Orlando. Scored a goal also, not a starter since they had Redding and Collin at CB.

How many losses do we have on the year when all 4 of them started and finished the game after a full weeks rest?

Just one. The 2-1 home loss to Chicago on April 21(our previous game to that one was April 14). All 4 of them went the full 90. All of our other 6 league losses featured some sort of variation from our usual back 4.
