So they only care about the nationalities of players and not the actual club? Your ex-worker, his friends and family are all idiots.

Didn't you literally just this week make a post in another thread about not being an ass on message boards?

As for the article, that horse was beaten to death long ago, you could try every which was to bring people in and so long as EPL is on tv instead its gonna be a rough go.

If we sign players in the 800k-2million range there is no guarantee we will be winning championships.  Others teams do it but that is no guarantee of success.  There is no magic formula in MLS to always have  consistently winning team.  If you look in Europe, the teams that spend the most are the ones consistently on top.  MLS has strict parity rules that prevent that from happening.

No one can predict the future, so we don't know for sure if spending less will have a big impact on attendance.  Mexican league ratings are 10 times higher than MLS.  EPL ratings are 5 times higher than MLS.  Soccer is clearly popular in the USA.  Diehard fans like us will come out regardless.  However, I am convinced the other fans will more likely come out to see David Villa and Frank Lampard over Diego Valeri and Pedro Morales.

The teams doing well attendance wise are mainly the newer teams.  I am concerned that less spending will result in attendance similar to Chicago, in the 15k range rather than 19k.  We don't know for sure, especially with other factors to consider like increased spending on marketing and sales staff.

Many in Ironbound view it as analogous to baseball before Jackie Robinson... if we don't have any Brazilians/South Americans, how good can we be?

1. You should not pander to ethnic groups. Metro tried this & failed.

2. That said, it would be cool to have a team that local groups could identify with, to a degree. A lot of people root for 'their guy'. Why? Identity, pure & simple. How many Americans rooted for Fulham because of Boca, McHead, Dempsey? A hell of a lot more than would have otherwise. It's human nature.

3. I'd like to sign Ronaldinho type guys for the crowd every once in a while, but if we can do better for less by building a more complete 'team', so be it.

NY teams always need a marquee player.  Also, role players from a variety of sources.

We are good enough to beat the best teams, and bad enough to lose to the worst teams.
