#1362210 Hamlett is in so far over his head

Posted by sec201 on Yesterday, 01:53 PM

For now, we have to trust that he knows what he is doing. Look at stroud. Dude looks like a stud, could pay a role next season, and his cap hit is minimal. If he spent millions for the Argentine version of stroud that would be a disappointment but folks on these boards would praise it as a great move. Iding guys in the draft or academy that could be contributers to the first team is also very important. You dont need fancy or expensive players to be successful in mls. However, you do need players that can be molded into a system

For that past few seasons rbny has had a good front office. We have to trust their judgment that they know what they are doing. Performance wise, they have not failed.

I doubt that even Hamlett's wife would give him this much benefit of the doubt.

Is third gender option new?
My final answer was: Sign some big players!

The sole reason I answered this survey was to vent in the final comment section about how the club is cheap and only exists to develop players for use at Salzburg and Leipzig.   The comment surely wont be read, but it felt good to vent!

But you can be angry about 1) not signing players AND 2) not having a team that is capable of winning MLS Cup.

Especially in light of Denis statements in November that: a) MLS Cup was the goal and; b) that we had money to spend to bring in talent to help us toward that goal.

Now its we are focusing on the process, and we will add someone only if theyre the right fit, which is apparently harder than finding the holy grail.

#1361016 The Fire Chris Armas Thread

Game management is probably the one thing I do like about Armas. I remember thinking to myself about 3/4 through last season, "Armas makes good second half changes, I just wish he didn't have to make them so often"

To be fair, I think he's pretty good at this too.  My issues with Armas are: (1) I don't think he's a good motivator of players (at least relative to Jesse); and (2) he does not clearly impart his game plan to the team (or even worse, that he does not have a coherent plan).

Thats exactly what we did last season.  Were you ecstatic?

You can get plenty of players that could contribute on the first team for a $2 mil fee. The club just didnt spend wisely with Jorgensen (at least thats how it seems, still hoping he turns into a player).

#1360133 Danish GK David Jensen, English RB Mandela Egbo

Posted by sec201 on 28 January 2020 - 03:52 PM

Egbo has managed to play 5 times this season for 12th-place Darmstadt of the German 2.Bundesliga. He started a couple of games at the beginning of the season, but hasn't made a first team appearance since August. Last season, he played for Monchengladbach II in the fourth division and racked up 8 yellows and 2 reds in 24 games.

Great use of an international spot.

The fact that he hasn't played since the start of the season for a mid-table BL2 team means that he's prolly gonna be competition for Duncan, rather than an outright replacement.  Still, we sorely needed depth/competition at RB, so hard to be upset about this.

Still think we need DP/TAM level striker and/or defensive midfielder/destroyer.

Good point. Moneyball is just signing players who perform above their market value. Can be done at any level of player and league.

Yes, its about finding value.  I have no beef with that.  Problem is that we arent finding anyone.  And thats the problem.

I wrote an angry letter to my rep a few weeks ago (not directed at her, obviously).  If every season ticket holder did the same, maybe it would have some sort of effect (doubtful though).  In any event, it felt good to vent.

Here is what I wrote:

Hey Kate,

Happy New Year!  I just wanted to drop a quick line to you that I hope you will pass on to management.  As you know, with three young children, I am not able to make many games.  Despite this, I continue to renew my season tickets, as I feel its important to support the club.  I have been a season ticket holder for the past 11 years.

However, Im now questioning my decision to renew.  It just does not seem that the club is willing to invest in acquiring players who can be difference makers.  It seems content to build through the academy and the draft.  Every other club is signing DPs, and some of those signings are significant.  Meanwhile, we have let our two most senior leaders go (BWP and Robles), and seen Murillo transferred to Belgium.  And outside of a reserve goalkeeper and the draft, we have acquired no one.  Of course, theres still time to sign new players before the season starts.  But the inaction thus far has been dispiriting.

If the club is not willing to invest financially in players, I ask myself why I should invest financially in the club.  Weve all seen the tarps go up the past few seasons.  Theres a reason for that.  And If the club keeps on its current trajectory, I have a sneaking suspicion we will see even more tarps.   (I know Im likely preaching to the choir here.  Since you make a living selling tickets, Im sure youre probably dying for some big signings as well.)

If you could pass this email on to management, Id appreciate it.  Doubt I will get a meaningful response from someone higher up in the club, but I would be remiss if I didnt say something.

Another Monday, another day without rumors.  Did see, however, that Leipzig loaned a striker to Leeds.  Not like we need any help at that position.

Well despite my calls for patience this week, this is not the most encouraging sign of things to come from Armas on his media call today (from Mark Fishkin). He and Hamlett need to drop the "right player" deflection strategy, its become a running joke to fans...

"Internally, we've been building out our scouting and analytics department. It's important that if we add, it will be the right player. Inside, we're working hard to find the right piece. In the coming days, you'll see things that could fall into place for us."

Love the bullshit spin from official MLS site.  Get a load of the headline:

What does this nothing burger of a quote even mean?

On more signings:

"Internally, we've been building out our scouting and analytics department. It's important that if we add, it will be the right player. Inside, we're working hard to find the right piece. In the coming days, you'll see things that could fall into place for us."

Uh...shouldnt it be pieces? We have at least 4 senior roster spots open.

Ill translate:  Leipzig is spending 30 mil on a player.  Theres a chance to win the Bundesliga, so all of our money is going there.  Sorry RBNY fans!

I'm starting to buy into the Hamlett is clueless argument.  Even if you assume that Red Bull is doing things on the cheap, Hamlett still has to find cheap players/players available on a free.  He's not even doing  that.

#1358673 Nicolas Castillo

Hope it's BS. Why not bring back BWP if they are chasing this guy.

he is 8 years younger.  Again, this rumor is probably bunk, but 26-27 is probably at the upper range of what the club will consider for outfield players.

Lack of confidence in our management to make a good investment.     Kaku and Matty Ice (and Keita and...) haven't reflected well on their judgement.    They've acknowledged that by bringing in new scouts - we'll see if that helps matters, and how much rope they will give Hamsandwich before they replace him.

I agree about Jorgensen but think Kaku was a fine pick up.  Would be more than happy if we snagged a couple of players of his caliber before the pre-season starts.
