We are counting winning in the 2nd Division as a major title?

No. Nor are we considering a Division 2 half-season title "the same as the Supporters' Shield", nor are we considering three friendly tournament trophies "major".

The majors in North American soccer are the D1 league championship, D1 regular season, the two national championships (US and Canada), the CONCACAF championship, and the world championship.

I thought DC had 13.

The 1998 Copa Interamericana is what DC claims as a 13th major, but there's no validity to the argument over a two-legged supercup held entirely within the United States rather than at their opponent's pitch, that didn't get DC United CONMEBOL's berth in the Intercontinental Cup, and that was infrequently held and hasn't been held in over 15 years.

Also, why was this moved? Odd. Hope it doesn't mean the Open Cup thread isn't being closed.

Omg.....the cosmos lol.....dude in case you have not noticed. No one gives a shit about the nasl or the cosmos in this country and more importantly in ny and its sorrounding areas. And by nobody i mean nobody! Relatively speaking. I lived in brooklyn and staten island for most of my life. Played college soccer in ny, played at the met oval, plyed with bk italians and some other pdl teams and i can honestly say not one time has the name cosmos been uttered or spoken about when we talked/discussed soccer on the field or off it. Please spare me the statement that the cosmos are the most storied soccer team in us history lol..... Back in those days the league they were a part of was a complete joke which was obvious from the on set which eventually led to its demise. Those championships mean absolutely nothing and considered completely worthless by 100% of the soccer people in this country. Gtfo with this cosmos and nasl bullshit.

You can use whatever definition you want for your own purposes, but it widely accepted that Honors includes all domestic league titles and cups and internationally sanctioned tournaments.  Cosmos have won 17.  Sayinf an NASL club can't claim the honor of winning the NASL because they are not D1 is patently absurd.

Its a major award!!

The cosmos was a name that bought.  There is NO link from the old team to the new other than someone paid for it like a vanity domain name.

props to rochester for beating colorado in the 99 open cup, but i didn't honestly give a shit what they did to other D2 competition or whatever in league play.  their OC accomplishment was impressive.  hasn't happened since.

in the same vein, i didn't give a flying fuck what boise st did when they weren't D1, but when they beat Oklahoma in the Fiesta (or whatever BCS game), THAT was impressive.  did anyone give a shit how well they did when they weren't D1?  NO.  did anyone talk about their accomplishments when they weren't D1? NO.

The cosmos was a name that bought.  There is NO link from the old team to the new other than someone paid for it like a vanity domain name.

No simpleton...that was not what was bought. What was bought was the legal entity itself, the same one that has been kept active since the mid 70's, including all assets and holdings of the company. In 2010 Kemsley acquired ownership of the New York Cosmos (not just a name or trademark), similar to an investor buying a majority stake in an existing business. The entity itself has been kept alive ever since 1985, it never folded, disolved or ceased to exist. Pepe continued to run the New York Cosmos until 2010 and paid corporate taxes, and used the New York Cosmos entity to further some of his own camps and such. The only thing that hasn't been present and continuously ongoing this whole time, is the professional soccer team itself because Pepe could afford to form a professional team alone. The New York Cosmos have been around and active the entire time, but a team to play professionally has been dormant.

In 2013, O'Brien and Sela investors bought out Kelmsey for control of the New York Cosmos and organized a professional team to take the field for the first time in almost 30 years.

Its the same ORGANIZATION!! Just now with different owner, and as such all the rights and history of that organization remains the same. That is why they can call themselves the same New York Cosmos, run around with all the trophies from the last time they were active, and be recognized by FIFA and the world as the New York Cosmos.

The only people saying they are not the same are people with fantastical or romanticized views about a very small period of existence of the team 77-82 when they were at their best. To them that time can not be duplicated and should be buried in the past forever. (or just plain haters). They are offended anyone would try and bring back the Cosmos because to them they died forever, too bad facts don't support that viewpoint.

What someone totally detached from that team or league thinks is irrelevant. They still accomplished what they accomplished at whatever level they did it at. I am sure 99% of the NCAA football "people" couldn't give two shits about Boston College either, doesn't diminish anything they did.

By the same line of reasoning..i am sure fans in Rochester couldn't give a single fuck about the accomplishments (rather lack of) of Metro either or what they did in their league.

the same one that has been kept active since the mid 70's

And by that you mean, "not active at all until it was bought".

It was active the entire time....so at no point has it not been active. All that happened at the purchase was changing of hands on who owned the entity.

Keep trying.

Well it's a good thing I didn't say that then. Just because it's not a major doesn't mean I said it wasn't an honor.

Also, I really don't see the need for this antagonism from everyone towards one another. I sure respect RBNY fans way more than Man City USA fans, and in the other direction claiming our club is somehow 'less than' simply because we were dormant for awhile, like several have been, is silly.
