One reason that I have heard is that with the new formation, Marsch needs CBs that can handle the ball well. The fullbacks are now up the field acting as wingers, so they can't do it. Collin is not as good dealing with the ball. Not a fan of the formation and Collin being benched is another reason to scuttle it.

Surely whatever it is that DP is adding in distributing the ball (not much!) is more than negated by him being worse than (in-shape) Collin at their job, defending.

Collin will get his starting spot back soon enough. He was atrocious vs Vancouver but DP is just not good enough to be starting over him in the long run.

Marsch at training today said (paraphrasing) that he felt that Collin needed to get himself a little more fit and a little more sharp.

Which begs the question:  Why wasn't he fit and sharp at the start of the season?

Yeah, thanks to Dyer for asking the question.

Basically I took it as that they weren't thrilled with where he was at initially.  Perhaps didn't come into camp in the best shape.

Either way, that said, Marsch basically said he's staring against Houston.

About time.  Hope he scores off of a free kick......

Even if he doesn't score, he draws a ton of attention.  I think that only helps us in those spots.  He's a handful to mark

Semantics, but Marsch said Collin is a "distinct possibility" to start.

Yep, reading through what he was saying.

Would have chosen different words if he wasn't going to start.

If he does\n't start something is wrong. The guy is heart and soul of the team when he plays.  All out all the time.

Hopefully being benched for a couple of matches really lit a fire under Collin's ass and he'll be back to his old self.

The team did heavy fitness work earlier this week, basically a glorified version of gassers. Collin finished very strong, arguably the fittest I've seen him over the past year. Really impressive.

Usually Felipe, Davis, Adams and Kljestan (often in that order) are the top in these types of sprints. Collin wasn't far off.

And now something on a different type of gassers:

Kljestan has always been good at endurance tests. Like sprinting until you can't anymore, or the dreaded Beep test, or just long jogs. I dunno how he is doing at an older age.

We are good enough to beat the best teams, and bad enough to lose to the worst teams.

I think one thing to take away from this season would be Long & Escobar developing to the point where you offer Collin a sub-$175k/yr deal for 2018, or you move on. I like Collin, want to keep him, but we can't keep spending $400k/yr on the guy after this year. 9 of 25 games played so far this year; I'm worried the returns will only keep diminishing.
