We are good enough to beat the best teams, and bad enough to lose to the worst teams.

Baseball is trying to make a lose-lose situation worse:

Baseball is desperate. Rule changing has gone berserk: Extra innings will begin with a runner on second base.
Will that apply to each extra inning?
How will that affect the pitcher's ERA? earned run or unearned?

The consequence of the owners and players not coming to an agreement is (IMO) a big loss in the integrity of the competition. I believe Manfred did not have the authority to unilaterally expand the playoffs, so now we're going to have the Mets competing with NL Central and NL West teams for wild card berths, despite never playing a single game against any of those teams or having a single common opponent with any of those teams. I've tried to be open-minded with the experimentation of returning leagues and I'm fine with what the NBA, MLS, and NHL did, but this baseball return just feels too Mickey Mouse.

I think it will, if they follow the softball rule.Extra innings will begin with a runner on second base.
Will that apply to each extra inning?
How will that affect the pitcher's ERA? earned run or unearned?
Inherited runners have never counted towards ERA,
so I cannot see a man on second base scoring
being counted against the pitcher.
Could be charged against the team ERA, though.

I will be very surprised if MLB is even able to start their abbreviated season and borderline shocked if they not only start it, but finish it. It seems impossible that they will be able to operate business as usual (as opposed to adopting a hub city) and avoid a major derailment.

Players with big deals should all take deferred comp on a portion of their huge salaries. Nice to have million dollar checks roll in annually, years after retirement.
Of course, agents want their cut now, not over 35 years.

For those on the dark side, Yankee related:

I'm a resident of the dark side. That's now a couple of high profile players who've tested positive for the Yanks and likely won't be ready for Opening Day. Lemahieu and Chapman.

Baseball starts in a matter of hours and the Blue Jays don't have a home and the players/owners are negotiating over expanding the playoffs. I thought these sorts of shenanigans only happened in MLS!
